A Couple of recent projects, 1/72 & 1/32

Recommended Posts

Two recently completed. First up the 1/32 Hasegawa Fw190-D9. Really nice kit that, despite being pretty simple & with comparatively few parts, builds up into quite an impressive model. No real issues ecxept the undernose wing to fuselage joint where I ended up with a nasty step that required careful filling & sanding. Probably my fault although I couln't see where I went wrong. OOB apart from HGW seat belts from the Luftwaffe late war fighters set. The instructions it provides are "generic" & give no real clues as to how they attach to the airframe so I suspect I have those shoulder belts wrong but I can live with it. Kit markings are for two JV44 "Parrot Flight" machines plus one other. I went for the other!

Next the Airfix 1/72 Lancaster II. A bit of a departure scalewise for me, I can't recal the last 1/72 build I tackled but I enjoyed this & have other WW2 "heavies" in the stash! I added the Eduard self adhesive interior set, along with some elements of the exterior set for the wheel bays mostly. I also used the Eduard canopy masks as I didn't fancy trying to apply my own usual Tamiya tape to the canopies & turrets. All the fuselage window glazing is Kristal Klear rather then the transprent parts in the kit. Sadly quite a bit of "crud" gathered in the front turret which wasn't visible until the masks were removed - too late to do anything about that now. The only real issue was the bomb aimers blister which was too large for the aperture, at least on my example. Also, I understand why manufacturers do it from a production point of view but glueing transparencies together as a part of the build is not an easy task. Do you use CA & risk fogging & finger marks or PVA & risk the joint coming apart. I used the latter without complete success on the main canopy where separate parts (with/without blister) are supplied, according to which version you build. Also, my bomb bay doors are attached to their fore & aft jacks, but "float" inbetween - not right!. Anyway, not bad for a first effort IMHO! I've bought a base sheet which I have to mount on a suitable plinth & add the Airfix bomber resupply set which I am busy with at the moment.

Both very nice, the B II is such an interesting subject but of course the Dora is my favourite. I now what you mean about HGW fabric seatbelt instructions having just made my first set but they look great once finished.
