Mr Modeller
Hello all, Well it's been a while since I posted my first RFI on the forum - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234994393-airfix-172-north-american-p-51-mustang-foiled-nmf/- and I was very pleased with all of the great comments that I received from you guys, so I thought I'd throw up my second RFI with a set of pictures of another of my completed models for your perusal? That model is the venerable old 1:72 Tamiya kit of the Bell X-1 'Mach Buster'. Built mostly OOB, the only mods I made to it were to the probes which were very flimsy in plastic form so I made some new ones out of dressmakers pins and tiny pieces of spare etch sprue and I also added the canopy framing from very thin strips of black decal instead of painting them. There is also a scratchbuilt seat harness from painted masking tape, but it's hard to see any of the cockpit details in this scale? The kit decals for the US national insignia were too thin and showed a hint of the orange paint beneath, so they were replaced with more opaque aftermarket items. I hope you like it!! (Picture Heavy) Thanks for looking, all comments and valid criticisms welcomed!! Kev Edited April 3, 2016 by Mr Modeller

Mr Modeller
Super(sonic) build one I keep meaning to have a go at Thanks for your kind comments Stu, like the Super(sonic) pun , you should have a go they're not an expensive kit and it looks very eye-catching in the display cabinet? Cracking build and finish of this important aircraft Kev,always fancied a go at a kit of this machine. Hi Steve, thanks for your comments mate, I'm fairly new to the forum (at least in number of posts) so to get such comments from a long established member such as yourself is very satisfying and I like your own work too. Yes, a very important aircraft and one which all aviation modellers should have in their collection I feel? You can tell I like experimental aircraft (especially the Bell X-1) just from my avatar, which is of the great man himself - Charles 'Chuck' Yeager! The Tamiya kit is getting on a bit now but still builds into a nice model - did have a little bit of a fight with it but nothing serious and easily knocked into line - and it even comes with a rather large steel ball which sits in the fuselage at a predetermined location to stop any tail sitting, though I added a little extra in the nose just to make sure!? Also comes with options to make at least three other versions which came after the initial 'Glamorous Glennis' so really good value I feel? JamesP
Started mine last year with a view to using all the alternate bits to make a see-thru and inflight version. Got as far as scratching the second cockpit. This inspires me to get back to it.
alxzinbox
Another super build Kevin! The canopy turned out awesome If your camera allows for it maybe you could play around with the white-balance settings to get better color reproduction ?
Mr Modeller
Heartfelt thanks to all of you guys for posting such complimentary comments and especially the 'welcome' comments, they are all very much appreciated. Hi HouseSparrow - The canopy wasn't masked and sprayed, it was all done with very thin strips of black decal sheet, but many thanks for the compliment. Hi alxzinbox - I know what you mean mate, not overly happy with the way the photos came out myself, though I was taking the photos late at night in a dark room with artificial light and I was having a bit of trouble with my camera at the time? Also, I think the base makes it all look a little too yellow/orange overall which doesn't work too well in my opinion, so maybe I'll take some better photos outside in the sunshine at a later date and replace the current ones? Thanks for your input, very much appreciated. Kev Edited April 6, 2016 by Mr Modeller

paul_c
Very nice. I have a copy that is quickly heading to the top of the pile after seeing this! I plan to finish mine in the white/silver scheme and possibly use the transparent fuselage on one side.
SpeedyGonzales
What aircraft would be more historic and iconic than X-1?? Lovely model.
ArmouredSprue
Very nice little model, I've built one a few years ago (same painting scheme as yours) and I was tempted to use that clear fuselage to show the guts of it. You've done a really good job!
Mr Modeller
Thanks for the compliments guys, very much appreciated and glad you like it. Very nice. I have a copy that is quickly heading to the top of the pile after seeing this! I plan to finish mine in the white/silver scheme and possibly use the transparent fuselage on one side. The other schemes available in the box are all just as nice and I'll likely be building at least another two or three of theses Tamiya Bell X-1's in the future, but just had to build 'Glamorous Glennis' first!!
