Buddyboy12
Am I missing something? Why do airfix make building kits in 1/76 surely it would make more sense to keep to 1/72!
Graham Boak
Not exactly "keep to 1/72" - they were making building kits in 1/76 nearly as far back as they've been making aircraft in 1/72: an awful long time ago. They were sized, as were/are their AFV series, to match UK model railways 00 gauge. All the Airfix military vehicles apart from a few very recent airfield examples are in 1/76. There is an immense amount of model railway and military vehicle subjects already made and available in 1/76.

Radleigh
If a 1/76th Land Rover had a 1/72nd man next to it, would you notice the difference, would he look to big?
bhouse
If a 1/76th Land Rover had a 1/72nd man next to it, would you notice the difference, would he look to big?Yes, but not by much. A real life figure of 1.8m would be about 1.3mm bigger in 1/72, which scales up to a difference of about 4 inches in real life; so well within natural variation. Graham Boak
However, it is three-dimensional not just one dimensional, so is more a matter of bulk. It would look like a mix of the tall and hefty with the small and skinny, rather than the true range of variations seen among people. Obviously it can be done, and there's considerable variation between different manufacturer's figures even at a constant scale, but you'd have to pick and choose carefully. roymattblack
... My scales are VERY strange... They keep telling me I'm half a stone too heavy. Roy.
bhouse
Graham makes a very good point. If you're making a diorama that will mainly be viewed from one direction is top group all the 1/72 figures in the foreground with the 1/76 in the background.
