Brush painted !?!

Impressive build, Congratulations ! :wow:

It certainly was! Thank you.

Hope you are keeping well Bernd. Good to see you around on BM again - any progress with HMS Hood?

Kind regards,

There is currently not much time for modelling of posting in BM but Hood has seen some progress and i have now a Kagero book for her to answer some questions.

Beside that i plan to do an aircraft, more of that later on.

Have a great weekend :-)

Hi Bernd. Sorry you aren't getting much time for modelling but I'm pleased that HMS Hood is progressing and I look forward to seeing any updates when you get time. And I look forward to finding out about your planned aircraft build.

Excellent brush work. Was it a Citadel metallic you used? They really were good. The Mithril, Boltgun and Chainmail brushed and sprayed brilliantly. Sadly missed quality paints.

Thank you very much Darby. I actually used two of the new Citadel paints - the main overall paintwork being Citadel's Runefang Steel. When I tested them against Humbrol's and Revell's metallics it certainly came out best. I don't have any experience of Citadel's older paints but I have heard they were good. Maybe there is hope for this new batch? I found Runefang Steel gave the best appearance and brushed on really well once it had been thinned with water.

Excellent model with the finish I like and just goes to show you don't have to pre shade a model to death to get it to look right

Thank you very much for your comment Triumph. I did't think to pre-shade this one as the photos of the original aircraft don't seem to have that kind of effect on them.

Man, love it. Brush painted? That's impressive - would be happy if my airbrushing would get that good.

Well done. Also nice pics.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael and thank you too for your very kind comments.

Get work

Hi Calum. I'm assuming this was due to autocorrect?

I am in employment.............

Thank you.

Thank you again to everyone who has taken the time to comment.

Kind regards,

Stix

Absolutely superb Stix, hard to believe it was brush painted, very impressive!

Thank you very much Ronan71. Yes it has to be brush painted because I don't have an airbrush or anywhere I could use one!

Just a quick thank you too to anyone who voted for my build in the P-47 Thunderbolt STGB poll. The poll itself has gone AWOL but that's another story! I have done a longer thank you post here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234965437-gb-chat/?p=2334087

Kind regards,

Republic P-47D Thunderbolt - WZ-P - No.226551

As flown by Lt.Col. Benjamin Mayo, 84th FS, 78th FG, Duxford Air Base, 1944

Kit: 1/48 Tamiya "Bubbletop"
Paints: Citadel, Humbrol and Revell - all applied by brush.
Built mostly OOB apart from a few bits of scratch-built plastic and wire in the cockpit and wheel wells.
This was built as part of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt STGB

Work In Progress: Here

This build represents a number of firsts for me. It's the first non-Spitfire aircraft build since getting back into making kits again a few years back (I'm not counting the Captain Scarlet Angel's Interceptor here!). I'm pretty sure I only made one American aircraft when I was a child which, I think, was a Hellcat. This is also the first time I have attempted a brush painted NMF on such a large area. With regards the NMF paint - I got a lot of advice from fellow Britmodellers, thank you, and did some practicing on some scrap bits before deciding to use Citadel's Runefang Steel - I've not really used much Citadel paint in the past either.
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed building this kit - it is a well detailed kit and the fit is excellent.

Never seen brushwork that good on such a finish in my life, Sir!

You are a God of the hair-tipped stick.

Congratulations to a scholar and a gentleman --- and a damned fine modeller.

Thank you very much for your way too kind comments. I have to say I was pleased with the way the paintwork turned out. If you check out the WIP you'll be able to see the different paints testing I did - to try and find out which metallic paints brushed the best in my opinion.

Stix

I will indeed.

I use foil for the purpose myself.

I am looking for a good brushed silver, though, for aluminum dope finishes. I do a lot of inter-war subjects where that is very common. There was an acrylic brand I loved, but I've used my last bottle and cannot find the stuff anymore.
