1/18 Spitfire Mk. XIVe - Race #80

Recommended Posts

Amazing.

[The fact that your sublime Spit build has occupied 49 pages, yet my unfinished Sea King has already past 100, tells me that you have mastered economy of effort - and expression - to which I merely aspire.  I missed the original post of yours that Zac quotes in his signature block, but it is spot on.  Truly inspirational work... especially to a man just embarking on a Seafire build!]

I'm not sure if we in the Colonies fully understand the custom as is still stands in the UK, but I believe that an offer of something that resembles this beverage is appropriate in these situations:

I'd be pleased as punch if you have time for a pint during Telford. First round is on me!

Please tell me you buy Spitfire Ale in Ontario. You are lucky it is stocked there. Alberta stopped importing it.

Hey Gary, LOL, yes it does come in sporadically through the LCBO, and I always pick up a dozen bottles or cans (whichever is on the shelf). My in-house stock is getting low so I'm on the hunt whenever we drop into a store somewhere.

Spitfire Kentish Ale?  Gotta find me some of that.  I'm hoping to make a trip to Ontario in October for a church planter conference in Montreal.  Will hope to explore in and about Ottawa too so a pint would be a great treat on the trip!

How many good pubs do we have to choose from in Ottawa Steve?

Hi Rich,

Sadly, there's no Spitfire ale on tap here in Ottawa, but there are plenty of great pubs, along with a few brewpubs that produce their own products. PM me offline if you're looking for some recommendations for British-ish style pubs in town.

right my lovelies... :)

we are getting very near completion now so I recon maybe one more post after this and it will be ready. 18 months and 1600 pictures later...

most of the major assembly is done and I now have a jig I can place it in either way up to work on what is now left - namely the U/C and the canopy..

starting tonight with the tailfeathers - these had a very diluted wash of tamiya smoke and have now been permanantly fitted...

WIP1591_zpsclaysttd.jpg

..i might dust them a bit as they still look very clean & flat..

..then the exhausts were fitted - you can also see in these how the flory wash gives a little depth to the rivets & skinning...

WIP1594_zpsoyxtpdgx.jpg

lastly on the underside with the exception of the U/C were the front slipper tank mounts - these are the two samll circular things behind the chin intake..

WIP1596_zps8gjiubnl.jpg

..again, a bit more definition from the wash shows all the hard work :) I have seen pics of really filthy Spits in this area, but will likely leave as is..

WIP1597_zpsbtnmebvk.jpg

..don't know if I covered it before, but the ailerons were also permanently added... here is the underside of one..

WIP1598_zpscpxw8ihk.jpg

..and lastly the fuel filler pipe and cover and the strut behind the rollover bulkhead were added - the cover is just insulating tape, but it looks just like vinyl or rubber or whetever the real one is..

..and thats it for now - the next will probably be the last update before it is finished - then it goes in it's case ready for Telford.. :)

I have also been thinking about my next project - haven't decided and might even do a poll to get some help & ideas - one thing I am toying with might be a bit controversial - lets just say it is NMF and gives you wings :)

TTFN and thanks for coming along for the ride

Mixed emotions with this coming to an end Peter, pleased that it's finished (and beautiful too) but sad we won't see more of your excellent skills... until the next one! :)

Red Bull? That'll be good to watch.

The art of illusion.  To call this model making just doesn't seem right...more like three-dimensional fine aviation art!

BRILLIANT!!!

As for your next?  I'm still hoping to see N7654C progress!  Those wheel wells are just begging to be built!  But if for a plane of NMF that gives you wings (and was a single engine per our earlier musings on the topic)...I might guess a Ryan ST or what was known in the USAAC as a PT-22.  That plane would give you wings!

Harrison Ford owns one and crunched it not long ago.  That would make it controversial!

PS>  Peter, may we get a final photo of you with your masterpiece when it is all said and done?

Apologies all around, I was tired and emotional!

I got the wrong brewery in my post above.

It should read Brains Reverend James. NOT Adnams.

(The Spitfire is still sensational BTW)

That is mind blowing!  When the last set of pictures opened uo I truly thought I was looking at parts of a real aircraft.

Really wish I could come up with something more constructive to say, but simply superb.

Wish I could make Telford to see your Spitfire.
