Accurate Miniatures F3F-1

Recommended Posts

This is the Accurate Miniature F3F-1 biplane I made it back in 2000 when it was first released. I made the kit straight out of the box, which included the etched rigging. If memory serves me right, any of the F3F-1 squadrons could be made with the decal sheet provided. The makings of my model are from U.S.Navy Squadron Fighting 31 based aboard USS Saratoga (CV-3). I made this model long before I discovered micro-mesh to get a smooth paint finish, and before I used gouache to highlight the panel lines.

That's a lovely model of a beautiful plane. The prewar USN aircraft are some of my favourites.

Andy

Thank you Andy, I can understand why you love this type of plane. They were so colourful. I don't know if you've seen the film I mentioned above called Dive Bomber. I've not seen it for a few years, but if I remember correctly, it has some great footage of U.S. Navy aircraft. Joe.

Thank you very much Richard.

Nice job. Its still in good nick for a 16 year old model. Where do you store them?

Thank you ancient mariner. I keep them in boxes in the loft.

Very neat, somehow looks the better for not being weathered etc.

Thanks Davey, this was before I discovered gouache, but I agree, it looks neater clean.
