Accurate Miniatures F3F-1

Recommended Posts

This is the Accurate Miniature F3F-1 biplane I made it back in 2000 when it was first released. I made the kit straight out of the box, which included the etched rigging. If memory serves me right, any of the F3F-1 squadrons could be made with the decal sheet provided. The makings of my model are from U.S.Navy Squadron Fighting 31 based aboard USS Saratoga (CV-3). I made this model long before I discovered micro-mesh to get a smooth paint finish, and before I used gouache to highlight the panel lines.

Man thats pretty!! Thanks for sharing.

Rod

Thank you Rod. I noticed your work on Hyperscale of late.

That's a lovely model of a beautiful plane. The prewar USN aircraft are some of my favourites.

Will

Thank you Will, it reminds me of that old film Dive Bomber with Errol Flynn

Lovely looking flying barrel

Thank you very much Darby. I can put a name to a face now.

Great job Joe, really like the in flight shot.

Hi Adam, thank you. I was playing with the wife's hair dryer.

Beautiful Joe, class finish and very colourful,

Sean

Thank you Sean, it was a colourful time for the U.S. Navy

very nice work! I like the "action" pics

Thanks Reini78, I had the hairdryer on high at first. Not a good idea.

Very nice, I need to get one of these!

Thanks ForestFan, get one, you won't be disappointed.

That's a real beauty. The finish, especially the silver, is superb.

Thanks Meatbox8, I think it was humbrol metalcote.

Really nice work there Joe, looks great

Thanks Russ.

Looks excellent, even without micromesh and gouache. ;-)

Slick work!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Thank you Joachim, I get hooked on polishing with micromesh sometimes ;)

Lovely....!!!!!!! IMHO, it's an excellent looking kit.

Cheers....

Thank you Artie. I'm glad you like it.

Absolute nice! Perfect pics! Love this type of plane!

Andy

Thank you Andy, I can understand why you love this type of plane. They were so colourful. I don't know if you've seen the film I mentioned above called Dive Bomber. I've not seen it for a few years, but if I remember correctly, it has some great footage of U.S. Navy aircraft. Joe.

Hello Jaime, thank you. Your right, it is a very colourful aircraft.

Joe! That is a delight to behold, the scheme is a brilliant choice as well

Nice work

Hi Rob, thank you. The schemes did look lovely during that period.

Beautiful job on an excellent kit!

Richard in NZ

Thank you very much Richard.

Nice job. Its still in good nick for a 16 year old model. Where do you store them?

Thank you ancient mariner. I keep them in boxes in the loft.

Very neat, somehow looks the better for not being weathered etc.

Thanks Davey, this was before I discovered gouache, but I agree, it looks neater clean.
