Tiger331
Hi there, I've got loads of different shades of Blue colours amongst my large collection of Aeromaster, Polly S, Vallejo and Model Master acrylic paints but no PRU Blue !. The only paints I seem to be able to buy locally are Tamiya acrylics which I don't really get on with and are incompatible with the acrylic paint listed above. Anyone able to provide an accurate formula for mixing PRU Blue for a Spitfire XIX from other blue shades ? Thanks
Greenshirt
Possible PRU mix Since you say you have so many, I have to ask, do you have any of the following? - Pollyscale 505268 - Polly S 505088 - Testers 4847 - Vallejo 904 - Vallejo Air 109 Each of these acrylics are close approximations of PRU Blue. I've had some luck translating Urban's Humbrol mixes by translating their colors. First, some references indicate the USN Blue Gray closely approximates PRU Blue (or vice versa) so I would start with Urban's formula for that: 6*Hu:115 + 4*Hu:25 + 1*Hu:87 + 1*Hu:34 Hu115 is Russian Blue, which is no longer made unfortunately, but this site (http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1283459358/Convert+Humbrol+%5Bdefunct%5D+115+to+Vallejo) indicates Vallejo 107 would be close. Hu25 is Roundel Blue, a very brilliant blue to make the PRU Blue more intense. This site (http://scaleworld.webs.com/Colour%20Charts/Vallejo/Hum-V.png) says use Vallejo 965. Hu87 is Steel Grey, which the above site says is Vallejo 973. And of course Hu34 is just white (Vallejo 951). If I were to try Tamiya (my preference) I'd use a more specific formula for Blue-Gray: XF-18 MEDIUM BLUE: 3 XF2 - FLAT WHITE: 1 Post nr 5 in this thread may be useful: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/57000-airfix-172-spitfire-prxix-colors/ Hope this helps, Tim
rav
Anyone able to provide an accurate formula for mixing PRU Blue for a Spitfire XIX from other blue shades ?When my son started Spitfire XIX I took up to find a good formula for PRU Blue using Gunze C paints. I found a "50/50 MSG with Azure Blue", but in my opinion it was too light compared to MSG on the Spitfire. So I mixed 50/50 Ocean Grey with Azure Blue and I like the result:
Tiger331
Thanks Guys ! I do have Testors 4847 and Vallejo 904 in my acrylic paint 'stash' right now but I DO like the way your Spitfire XIX has come out (rav)…..that shade of PRU Blue looks spot on to me and I have both Ocean Grey and Azure Blue in my stock of Aeromaster/PollyS paints so I think I will give that a go. Thanks again Mark
