Romeo Alpha Yankee
Well, thanks to Mike (@mitchem) I am able to crack open another kit (or 2) and eventually add them to the shelf of doom. I put out a request for a Singapore Airline B777 decal and he came to the rescue. I had an SIA kit but with 50th Anniversary decals. I wanted to do the standard scheme as in September we will have our first international flights into Canberra being serviced by SIA B777-200ERs. So why not build one? A few guys from our club got together for a Friday build night and I broke open the kit and go it started, trouble was there were 2 kits in there! Oh well, a double build was started The other B777 will be a British Airways aircraft, very smart scheme IMHO. After the fuselages were knocked together I got on with correcting the horrible shape of the flap track fairings, one wing down 4 to go! The other side awaiting attention and the engines were also knocked together ..with the result that some filling, filing, and sanding will be required. While the paint on the A350 is drying I will be attending to these. Edited March 16, 2018 by Romeo Alpha Yankee Updated image links

mitchem
......and eventually add them to the shelf of doom. ...I knew I should have held the decals hostage...at least until the leading edges on the wings had been painted ! Cracking start Ray - watching with interest (and in stereo !) mike
MikeW
Mike ( mitchem ) has also contributed generously to my builds in the past - good man that. ( Hi Mike! ) Singapore has a great livery - one of the few that that still has a cheat line, even on the A380.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
After the arrival of SQ291 last Wednesday I have renewed interest in this build The wing tangs (that I can never get to mesh properly) were trimmed down Wings were attached and that underbody fairing was attended to. Before and nearly after, still some minor filling to go. I am not sure what the tool makers were thinking when they did this to what was supposed to be a flat fairing. Then again there is a lot wrong with the moulds with all the other squared off fairings and stab leading edges. After looking at a few images of the subject aircraft I realised that the livery has changed since the Flying Colours sheet Mike so generously donated was issued So it looks like I need to source a newer sheet for this project. Graeme H
Wow, you are really pumping them out Ray, I see the weather was less than kind for the first flight into CBR
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Yes Graeme, I am in the groove at the moment. Making the most of it. It rained all day and there was resulting local flooding in some areas. Friday's weather was a lot better and others got some nice shots of the same aircraft on arrival and departure. Romeo Alpha Yankee
A little work done, the engine pylons sink into the wing when fitted. So I have had to pack the rear area of the recess for the engine in the wing so it is not totally swallowed up. I have also added some fences to the inboard side of each engine, these need to be cleaned up as the I just made up the fences roughly based on those included in the Zvezda B777-300 kit. As you can see by the engines I have 2 kits on the go, the SIA jet is further along with puttying and sanding than the other. I figured it would easier to make the mods to both kits as I went along. The other will most likely be in BA colours at the moment though I do have an older scheme ANZ decal in the stash as well ad may be tempted to change my mind as it is readied for paint. Romeo Alpha Yankee
Thanks Alex and Mike, I am being severely distracted with other builds, any one for a B787-9? Got to get those GB models progressing
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Gear is now attached And have started adding the lots of little protrusions. Engines pressed in with a couple of my other Boeings on the assembly floor Edited March 16, 2018 by Romeo Alpha Yankee Updated image links
Romeo Alpha Yankee
This one has been waning on the Shelf of Doom - picture links for the previous posts in the thread have been updated. I started to paint the wheels But when the tyre black went on it ran under the masking, this is the paint I like least about airliners. So it all went back in the box I had also splashed some paint on the wings and pictured with my -300 conversion I should get back to these (though I had better finish the 3 B737s in the GB first I think!)

Romeo Alpha Yankee
Thanks Phil, Some shots of the engines after some paint Though I found some issues and rubbed them back and did some work on the engines today to reshape the pylons to remove the edges on them. They got another touch of paint but no pictures of them at this point. Fuselage and wings painted, leading edges to be done yet.

Alan P
You poor man, having to make two of those abominations...😁 Certainly looking like the proverbial silk purse so far though, looking forward to the BA version. Alan (ex-777 pilot)

In fact the engines have been refilled and repainted. I just need to get around the masking up and spraying this metal bits. I have had a couple of attempts at painting the wheels which I have not been happy with. 6 hours ago, Alan P said: You poor man, having to make two of those abominations...😁 Certainly looking like the proverbial silk purse so far though, looking forward to the BA version. Alan (ex-777 pilot) Thanks Alan Well yes, not just 2 any more. I have acquired a couple more (cheaply) to do an ANZ jet and some other scheme to be determined. Having already built a couple of these over the years I know what needs fixing. They go together quickly and are easy to make look descent.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Dragging this thread from the depths, gee almost 12 months since the thread was last touched. Not sure why I put off progressing it after seeing how it looks now. Anyway the masking was started on the engines and tail planes and some SMS silver sprayed on them as well as a couple of engine-ish colours on the exhaust sections The masking came off an they looked OK I also masked and painted the wing and vertical stab I also put some wheels and MLG bogies on to see how it looked So I suppose it is now finally ready for some decals only 4 years after starting it!
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Decals went on and got this far I used Mr Softer to set the decals and it tarnished the gold section of the decal. So I am rubbing them back and have ordered another set of decals from Flying Colours. Back on the shelf for a while longer.
