Airfix, 1/48 Royal Navy Westland Lynx Mk3.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just a few pictures of my 1/48 Royal Navy Westland Lynx Mk3.

Thanks to Colin of Rotorcraft for a great conversion.

This build is of a RN Lynx Mk 3 of 702 Squadron, RNAS Portland 1983.

Hi Wafu,

You have done justice to a fine helicopter and as they say in Royal Navy parlance it "looks Pusser". I have built the Airfix HMA8 and the AAC Lynx but they require a viewing form at least 3 feet ha ha. Is the yellow and red thingy attached to the starboard sponson a piece of sonar kit? Also, where did you get the folded blades supports from as my next helo. build will include folded blades?? Best wishes from a fellow Rotorhead and mere apprentice.

Yes, it was/is known as the MAD (Magnetic Anomoly Detector) used as part of the ASW kit on Frigates in the early 80's.

Airfix supply the blade fold in both of the kits RN and Brown jobs, they've even added the blade cuff inserts in the moulding of the folded blades. Rotor craft give you a great jig to replace the BERP blades with the standard 'steel' blade.
