I'm tempted to break out the He111, then work out what needs to happen to make it a H3 from a H4 kit.

Which kit is the He111? I'll go and have a look in my books to see what the differences are between the H3 and H4 but I'm guessing not a lot (famous last words and rivet baiter).

It's the ex-Monogram / Revell boxed "H4 / H6" although I gather it's not actually accurate for either of those and may be better for a H2 or early H3!

If it's any help, I did an H-2 out of the Monogram kit several years ago - here's a link to the build

The Stuka is very, very nice and has motivated me to pull one out of my stash. Congradulations!

Hi Colin, that's a cracking He-111 build just glancing through the photographs! I'll go and have a thorough read of it. Thank you :D

I'd like to plug my friend's new business for a moment by extending a big thank you to our very own Duncan B's BlackMike Models. Duncan has kindly and rapidly obtained and sent me these MG15s to allow me to finish my Stuka, which coincindently - I'm about to do.

I won't ask anyone to give Duncan preferential treatment - he won't need it. I will ask you to consider giving him an opportunity to prove himself though :D

These guns are quite nice. I drilled out the end of the barrel with a 0.3mm drill but it's not really visible so it was a waste of time. I painted it up in gun metal (or dark iron as Eduard call for), red brown for the case collector, magazine strap and pistol grip, and bright aluminium for the trigger, trigger guard, two plates on the pistol grip and recoil spring behind the cocking handle. I thinned the Colourcoats down for brushing this as the detail is very fine indeed and I didn't want to just flood it all with unthinned paint. It's turned out quite nice, but it's at the limits of my phone's macro-photography capabilities!

I still have the 2 sights to fit, but the barrel wouldn't have fit through the hole in the glazing if they were fitted beforehand. I've tried some Clearfix to glue it to the glazing, which is drying now. It'll be delicate, but the whole weapon is delicate and I figured I'd rather break the whole thing from the glazing than just snap the barrel off the breach block if I knocked it.

I'm off downstairs to raid some Infini rigging line for the aerial. Once that and the sights are on, I'm calling this one finished.

The rigging is applied with a dab of medium CA applied with a piece of heat stretched sprue. I start at the fin, let it tack, then stretch the line to the mast. Once both are dry, I trim with a scalpel.

This really is fantastic stuff for rigging, because if you are a bit clumsy like I can be at times, it lets you away with proverbial murder.

Then goes right back the way it was.

I'm now calling this one finished, and will post my RFI directly. Thank you all for your interest, kind words, encouragement and support. It's what motivates me to finish things!

Ooo Jamie I want some of that rigging stuff and your site is top of the search (good job!)

What's the best 'dernier' for 1/72 aerials would you say (please)?

Hi Ced :)

I've used the 70 denier stuff there as you can see which is 0.091mm dia. I discussed with Stew recently who has 2 thicknesses of black already but wanted to try a white one which is a little more subtle and looks more like metal wire. I think he went with the 40 denier for 1/72 scale which is 0.068mm dia. Not sure if he's used the white 40 yet? I think the 20 might be a bit too fine for this. It would be a toss-up between 40 and 70 if it were me, and for 1/72 I'd probably lean towards the 40 :)

It all looks very fine indeed, of course the Brassin MG15 really is the star of the show. :bleh:

Thanks for your plug, most kind, I'm glad I could help you out.

Thanks Jamie - ordered! Along with some of the enamels so I can build models like Stew's (one day...)

Hi Jamie, Ced; I ended up getting the 40 and the 70 deniers as both are incredibly fine and I think either would do - I used the white Infini thread (it might have been the 70, I think though my intention was to use the 40 I fear my inattention might have thwarted that plan) on the Defiant (again; sorry for the plug of my work)...

Cheers,

Stew

Thanks Jamie, very efficient! I've emailed you as I messed up the order late last night (too many DEs, and G&Ts!) - I hope the email gets through... Hopefully you can swap one for a MSG for me? Sorry, I'm an idiot...

Stew the aerial on the Defiant looks (where is it? Oh, there) great - I like it! Looking forward to trying it out, and the enamels (brushed, probably).

Hi Ced,

There's nothing on my phone so I asked Gill to check a proper PC for the junk folders etc. Nowt their either?

It's not a problem though - which would you like to swap for MSG? The Sky Type-S?
