AZ Spitfire XVI

Recommended Posts

Hi Patrice. Yes it looks quite different in a single colour upper surface and the springbok insignia.

I finished the undercarriage assembly and whilst waiting for my matt varnish to harden. Then unfortunately I ground to a halt because all my CA glue bottles had gone off :unamused:. I'll get some more this week.

Never mind, my interloping Mk.I is 99% finished! It's on it's legs and all that is needed now is another coat of Matt varnish to absolutely flatten the camouflage and maybe tidy up the paint on the tyres.

So..........

whilst waiting for paint, glue and varnish to dry, I started this yesterday.......

The delightful 1/72 Airfix 'stang.

My mojo for 2017 has definitely returned :)

A small update for tonight. The XVI now stands on its own legs!

Got to say though that 'vague' flatters the fitting of the legs. There are no locating lugs or locating holes whatsoever. Sure the instructions give you how ever many blah de blah degrees you should place the legs, but come on AZ, how hard would it have been to give a precise fitting mechanism. As it is I think this is more Mk.I than XVI, but it's standing.

Thanks guys.

Canopy on the XVI tonight and a final matt coat of varnish on it and the MK.I and then post some pics on the RFI thread.

200% increase in my output from 2016!

To be fair the newish Mk.I that interloped into this thread has very positive locating lugs/holes.

The Airfix one? Yes, it has probably my favourite u/c breakdown of any kit I've built so far.

Right I'm calling this one (and the interloper) done!

About twelve months late for the Edgar tribute build but I got there in the end.

The AZ kit was bought especially for this build and overall I'm pleased how it went together but see the commentary above for the inevitable caveats.

The Mk.I is the latest Airfix rendition. It's the third I've built but the first to use the kit transfers.

A few shots, but I'll do an RFI in a mo.
