MetroRacing
Last night I had my mini decal marathon. As it turns out the heated windscreen element decals which I had planned on fitting from the inside along with the tax disc, are designed to be fitting without the painting of the front window framing. Nice to find that out after following the instructions and painting them in. Note for future build. Only paint the rear window framing on the glass lol. With regards to the damaged decals however, the supposed same decals used for the '94 Monte Carlo are larger save for the Sabelt one. So instead of just replacing the damaged ones I went ahead and changed them all to match. Those being the Michelin man on the front bumper and the towing eye indicator arrows. Today I cut out the mesh for the grills and installed the glass and rear view mirror, suitably tilted to the drivers side I've also started to add the lights and other details to the body. Now that the body is on I've started to measured up the suspension in order to shorten them. The fronts need 3mm cutting out, which I've done on one side so far. I've drilled it out to be able to reinforce it with 1.2mm brass rod. The first one is drying atm. Then it'll be the turn of the other front before moving onto the rear. Hoping to get them done for tonight. The paint on tomorrow and the model done by possibly Wednesday. It's the start of my 2 week holiday from work HAZZAH!!! So I should be able to get quite a bit done. I've already started prepping the body on my next build, but that's a secret for now TTFN Ashley Edited March 6, 2016 by MetroRacing

MetroRacing
Thanks Marc. Glad my waffling isn't a total bore haha. Right last post of tonight. I've got all the suspension shortened now. This pic shows just how much I had to cut out of the front: 3mm doesn't seem a lot until you actually see the difference lol. Previously I've only ever cut 2mm out of the suspension struts on Hasegawa kits but the Subaru Legacy I finished off last year is still riding a little high. which is why I decided to actually measure this time. I had a little woopsie moment with the other front one. Nothing a bit of filler can't fix though: The rear suspension I only had to cut 1mm out as for some reason the wheels seem to sit in the arches more. So I'm still on target for a Wednesday finish. I've painted a rough representation of the orange indicator bulbs and the red Mitsubishi badge on the grill. Will probably get the wing mirrors, wipers, bonnet and boot pins and the rear spoiler on tonight before I call it a night. TTFN Ashley
keefr22
Nothing boring about this thread Ashley, really enjoying seeing it come together. Only problem with it is, as I haven't finished a car model for getting on for 10 years I've been selling a lot of my car stash off - including my Gallants & all early Evo's, something I'm now regretting...!! Interesting work on the suspension, I've never actually converted a gravel car to tarmac spec (well, except in real life that is!) Keith
MetroRacing
Thanks Keith. That's one thing I've never considered, selling my rally kits off. Road cars maybe and time will tell if selling most of my airplane stash off was a good idea haha. The conversion is quite simple for these Hasegawa kits. although it's probably not all that accurate lol. This morning I did a mock up to again test the ride height as well as make any other mods that were needed. The ride height is now perfect for me, though in reality it could do with being a fraction lower for an all tarmac event. I had to cut out a small section to allow for the steering rack and bent the lower wishbones so they met with the hubs: All the struts are currently awaiting the paint to dry. In the meantime, after working on my 1:1 car I carried on with the other little details. After these pics were taken I glued the front lights in. Not very convinced about my attempt to depict the indicator bulb but with them just being flat otherwise it's better than nothing lol. The wind mirrors and wipers are now on and so is the ariel. Next up is to cut out the mud flaps. I will probably trim them down a bit as the ride height is now lower. After that is just the final assembly of the suspension and exhaust and she's done. Might even get her finished by tomorrow lol. I'm currently cleaning up the parts on this; ready for primer Pic's a bit blurry but it should suffice. I'll be building the 1993 Monte Carlo rally version. Shockingly it'll go with my Lancer and Escort for the same event haha. What sold it for me for that version aside from my others for the same, was that Hasegawa chose strangely to include the tarmac wheels like the Martini release and just threw in some Gravel tyres for them. OCD overload avoided by robbing the tarmac tyres from my Spares and Repair Delta hehe. Hopefully the next update should be the finished Lancer TTFN Ashley Edited March 7, 2016 by MetroRacing
Mickd
The Lancer is looking great but I can't wait to get a look at that Delta.
keefr22
The Lancer is looking great but I can't wait to get a look at that Delta. Agreed - the Delta is one of my all time favourite cars! keith
MetroRacing
Thanks guys the delta is fully underway now. WIP for that coming very soon lol. Righto I'm calling the Lancer done: More pics in the RFI section here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234998839-mitsubishi-lancer-rs-1993-monte-carlo-rally/ The front wheels proved to be a right nightmare at the very end. Had to get the Epoxy out in the end to glue the brakes to the hubs to stop them separating and taking the wheels with them haha. Once I finally got them to stay on I decided enough was enough and although I cut out the mud flaps I just couldn't be bothered to try and fettle them into position lol. The Escort being a Tamiya kit doesn't really feature them anyway so for now at least it fits in with it. Thanks to everyone who's commented along the way. Especially you Keith who's single comment about the seat belt bar led to an OCD filled sleepless night wondering were to get a spare wheel from haha Anyway onwards to the Delta that's proving popular before it's even properly begun lol.
