I'm pleased, if not a little humbled, to be the first poster in this GB with my build of the Airfix 1:72 Spitfire Vb, WiP thread here.

OOB using the 'A' scheme, flown by PO Leo Nomis, No 71 Eagle Sqn RAF, Martlesham Heath, Suffolk in April '42.

Italeri 1/72 Mk IX built with the Airfix as a two model build, WiP here.

MH526 ‘City of Glasgow’. Air History shows her built in August ’43, transferring to 602 Sqn in September.

Flown by Pierre Clostermann who should be commemorated I feel. Bravo Bravo Aviation says:

"With 33 aerial victories, Pierre Clostermann DFC & Bar is France's ace of aces in World War II. He described his wartime experiences in his best-selling memoirs Le Grand Cirque (The Big Show)."

Lifecolor paints, airbrushed, W&N matt varnish.

RAF aircraft BS538 in June 1943 at 341 Sqn also flown by Pierre Clostermann. Pierre’s Wikipedia entry says “He scored his first two victories on 27 July 1943, destroying two Focke-Wulf Fw 190s over France.”

Spitfire PR XI EN 409

I was re-reading Eric 'Winkle' Brown's 'Wings on My Sleeve' after his recent passing. A sad loss, but his contribution to aviation is well known and he leaves a great legacy. Winkle recalls that the PR XI they used for high speed research, "stripped of all operational equipment", achieved Mach 0.92 - still "the highest ever achieved by a piston engined aircraft". This is discussed further here.

Here is my attempt at the MPM 1/72 kit, mostly OOB build with Xtradecal roundels and Ventura serials, Vallejo Model Air PRU Blue and W&N Satin varnish. WiP thread here.

This is the 1/72 new-tool Kovozavody Prostejov Spitfire IIB - a very nice kit, not quite as easy a build as the Airfix Mk.I but better in some ways - in any case the KP kit is the only game in town if you want a Mk.Ib or a IIb and highly recommended if you want a Vb.

I used the Peewit masks designed for the kit and replaced the kit guns with some Master brass cannons - there was nothing wrong with the kit supplied ones but I had the Master barrels in the stash and it seemed a good opportunity to try them out.

The markings are one of the kit options for a 616 Squadron aircraft based at Kirton in Linsdsey in the autumn of 1941 - a presentation aircraft titled "Rochdale and District 2" (being the second of two purchased by the locality); I liked the combination of the 'new' camouflage scheme with the 'old' national markings. The AZ kit has the same decal option and notes the pilot as Pilot Officer Alan Hodgkinson but I cannot find any further information about either the aircraft or the pilot.

Usual rambling build thread is here. Thanks to all who participated :D - here is the end result:

This is a 1/72 Spitfire 21 built from the Airfix Mk 22 kit, with the fuselage spine, tail section and counter-rotating prop from the Special Hobby Mk 21 kit, and the spare canopy from an Airfix Mk IX kit. The paint is Alclad Semi-matt Aluminum with a mist of Vallejo Metal Color Aluminum to represent the Aluminum lacquer paint and the cowling is covered in Bare Metal Foil. One down, two or five to go.

The WIP is here.
