Hello Friends,

Went to pick up my daughter from the bus stop on Friday and called into Toyworld and got this little Airfix gem. Also bought a 1/48 scale Revell Catalina.

Going to build it out of the box and have it done within a week.

Going to do the No.5 Flying Training School version.

I have already assembled the intakes, the cockpit and the tail booms. Just need to paint the cockpit black.

Thanks for looking.

DISASTER!!!!!!!!

What could go wrong with this little gem from Airfix......... I looked too long at Navy Bird's seats.

A picture of his seats below the Airfix seats for comparison.

Picture pinched from Navy Bird's build. Sorry if I have upset you Bill.

I then looked around for some aftermarket seats and spent 40 Pounds on these:

Catalogue ED73480 de Havilland Vampire T.11 (des... 1 £11.66 £11.66 Catalogue CMK7293 de Havilland Vampire T.11 in... 1 £8.83 £8.83 Catalogue EDCX360 de Havilland Vampire T.11 (des... 1 £3.75 £3.75 Catalogue X72174 Reprinted, back in stock. de... 1 £6.66 £6.66

Masks, decals, PE and resin cockpit- I have some sort of addiction to PE.

I bought some decals that had a RAN scheme. I could have RAAF decals on another sheet.

So much for OOB and a week in building. I will have to wait 3 weeks for the parts to arrive.

Thanks for looking.

Dont look at Bills seat because they are the wrong ones for a Vampire.

His are Martin Baker MK-4A's designed for the Sea Venom, you need MK-3's

a very different seat.

Wow Bill's seats are amazing! I'm doing the starter set out-of-box version of this over in current group builds. The only difference I can see so far is your far more comprehensive decal sheet. I'm looking forward to seeing how your build progresses.

Looks fantastic! I'm not allowed such details. May I suggest dry fitting all the wing bits if you weren't going to? I found a few things that may or may not need some very slight reshaping and if I did it again I'd put the intake grilles on after the wings.

Here's a dry fit of my wings on the already installed grilles. Mind the gap!

Don't be sad. It's all in fun and I haven't built a kit in a phenomenal amount of time. :P

I love these old British birds. Can't wait to see your nice-looking one. Haha.

Hello HH.

Mine has progressed to the undercoat stage. It wasn't a faultless put together. The upper wing/pod join is fine but underneath on one side it needed some filler as did the intakes.

****Important bit!****

Fix the upper wing first, then the booms, then the main wheel oleos and finally the two lower wing halves. If you leave the oleos until last, you can't get them to fit.

and Eduard PE

It seems I have enough PE for 2 kits so I will do a Rhodesian AF first.

Thanks for looking.

I have finally made a start on this model have painted the black in the cockpit and made a start on the seats.

Made some cushions.

just sitting in the cockpit.

The flash has made the cushions look too harsh.

Thanks for looking.

That's looking tasty! I had thought of that very same markings sheet for mine but in the end I'm dipping into the spares box.

I'll certainly build more of this kit as it's a sweet thing.

Finally did some modelling. Had this painted and drying in the sun, only problem it was Toki's (little cat) spot in the sun. Have repaired the damage and painted it with AK Interactive Xtreme Metal Matte Aluminium. She is now ready for stickers.
