A stirling effort. FM are always a bit challenging and this looks like more of the same. I bought this and the Griffon when they first came out 12 (?) years ago and haven't heard of one since, certainly never seen either built.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

O.K. i have glued wings and tailplanes on and applied filler and sanded......then a little more filler, i have also roughly cut out canopy and have it taped on just to get a feel for what i need to trim etc, i have also inserted undercarriage legs just to see how she looks on her feet, its sitting a little high as legs need trimming down at insert ends...ahhhh white metal is fantastic isnt it ?!!!!

Maybe she isn't as ugly as i first thought ???? hmmmm ...yeah i think she is, but she does have a more 'fifties jet type' appearance than before, at this stage anyway....to me however this is all part of how 'i' build.....i am trying to get a feel for what is skew wiff and what is o.k ( not a lot !) quite a lot of work in these limited run jobbioes, but one thing is for certain, she will be unique and will look interesting parked next to my E.E.Lightning's

As we are selling our house at the moment i have been fully occupied away from the modelling bench , however i managed to drag the Grognard back out to further it along,but..... i have lost some pieces in the process, fuselage fairings, inserts, naca intake, and wing fences, all are now being made from scrap !

Oh the joy of it all ! anyway i have managed to make a 'representation' of the intake and have installed some fairings and working on the wing fences at the moment, so here are some pics, including one of her 'propped' up on her undercarriage with the vacuform canopy sitting in place, i do this so i can get a feel for the model as i go along,

Much more to do , but thought i'd better post something.....

More next week....hopefully

Strange, I was only looking at one of these a few days ago and thought how good would it be to have a model!! Looking forward to seeing this done :)

People with them in the stash, anyone want to sell?? Serious question.

Hello !

Well i thought it about time to post an update, i have had quite a lot of trouble getting a smooth finish on the plastic due to it shattering and peeling off in little fibre like strips ( fun and games !) however after much filling ,sanding i have now achieved a near enough finish to enable me to start thinking about applying the metallic finish, before that i need to insert the seat ,affix the canopy, i will be using the new ( to me) AK range of metallics ,

It has been a very long gestation period building this model , even for me, however i need to be satisfied i will be able to put it in the cabinet and look at it over the years, i have quite a few projects on the go as i have mentioned as it helps me not get bored or bench a subject that gets difficult and believe me this one got difficult at every stage, i do feel i'm on the home stretch now though........we will see, having just sold our house we need to begin packing up soon but i intend to keep my modelling going during that 'process' so wish me luck

Cheers all

As regards aesthetics, it looks like a Global Hawk crashed into the front end of an He162. You however are managing to turn it into something fascinating and unusual. Lovely work Norman. As Darby says, looking forward to the final roll out. Best of luck with the move.

O.K trendsetters

This morning as the sun was rising i sanded down the offending leading edge that i had glued last evening, and a few scratches, and gave her an overall base coat of AK dark aluminium to test how things look, not bad, but there are still a few persistent scratches

But i do feel like i'm getting there, have plans for overall final finish to vary and dirty her up a bit....

Ahh i love the smell of metallics in the morning...

I just had another close look

Not Happy.........more scratches from rubbing down despite using extreme caution

Where does one draw the line and just finish a kit ?

That's one weird plane, but you're making an excellent job of it.

Sometimes you just have to accept that a flawless finish just isn't going to happen, and move on. I've done it in the past, but it doesn't mean you have to.

Would it cause too much trouble to try and fill the scratches? You might end up having to respray the entire kit again though. The metallic colour might not match, if you just do some touch ups.

Thanks Matt

I will need to remove scratches as i am pedantic ! , the metallic on there is a base from which i will work to vary tones etc and weather it a bit so i should be o.k ?? maybe perhaps

I know that feeling too well, but I can't stand the thought of finishing a kit with bad prep work/paint etc! Keep at it, you'll be pleased once it's finally done. Looking great too btw!
