dude_gan_ainm
Cheers lads.Small update on this one;stuck a piece of evergreen on the instrument coming plus a little filler.Rescribed the blades - it was a little faint.Reshaped the seat backs for the rear seats, made a new rear wall top which will be angled inwards & will add headrests.Fuselage : sinkmarks & unwanted panel lines filled in & smooth (found some more to do),tailspin area : lightly used a drill to represent screws & used a scriber to distress the metal in this area.More to do but it's progress anyway.Photobucket can be testing sometimes. troschi
I gave the engine section a quick clean up to show the fit but I wont be using these parts. For what reason? I have the impression that the engine housing is too big...
dude_gan_ainm
Hi lads, sorry for the late reply Troschi - I won't be using it because I'm converting this hopefully to a AS.355 Twin Squirrel which has a different engine housing.Maybe the kit part is too big??Anyway I havn't made much progress.Very little will be seen through the holes I made around the engine compartment so I just stuck in some stretched sprue & made two Milliput balls, painted aluminium & glued on a little shelf.Left over Milliput was just stuck on behind the cabin area. Wine bottle foil was then used to blank off both sides - black side facing out.Milliput also used to fill in a nose light.A roof panel was made from Evergreen sheet, the rear wall was angled & headrests shaped from plastic sheet as well.At this point the cockpit floor, instrument panel & rear wall warped due to being too close to heat - a downside to the soft plastic maybe. So the rear wall is still usable, the instrument panel savable but the floor was beyond saving so a new one has been made from plastic sheet & the instrument part will be Frankensteined on later. Also made a new rear seat made from plastic sheet & Mr. Surfacer.I also Micro Meshed the canopy, maybe it improved it,maybe not??This part is about 2mm thick & not smooth on the inside so it looks distorted when you look through it.A dip in Future might improve it a little but that's as far as I'll take it. I'll detail some cockpit stuff & can join the fuselage parts then. TTFN, Jimbob.
dude_gan_ainm
Hi guys, another small update on the little Squirrel. Not much done again mainly due to using one hand again after getting some specialist treatment, but its improving.I sanded off part of the foot window detail to enlarge these, marked out where the nose mounted camera goes, roughened this area & drilled four holes for four lengths of wire.Glued those in to give the Milliput something to grab. When that hardened it was sanded to shape & got a light coat of Mr. Surfacer. I used the kit camera but had to reshape it to look more like a globe shape like the earlier more basic camera mounts. Also punched a plastic disc to glue on the front,to be reshaped with Mr. Surfacer. Most of the parts here with the kit skids cleaned up.I gave the parts a light coat of Mr. Surfacer - ready for painting.Small parts mostly made from left over Milliput are stuck on coffee stirring sticks with a little blob of white glue to make painting easier.Brass tube used for the pedals & to support the stabilisers (this will also help with lining up the fuselage while joining the two halves). The headrests were puffed out with Milliput but tis not great. No modelling today - I gotta revise for a coarse I'm doing tomorrow. dude_gan_ainm
Cheers for the replies lads, just a quick update.Got some paint on at last, brushed Vallejo paints on the cockpit bits n pieces.Everything just loosly in place here, wine bottle foil used for the seatbelts, fire extinguisher from sprue & evergreen.Seat pockets from clear evergreen & paper card, decided to try my hand at a few headphones made from Milliput /wine foil & wire, cables to be connected yet.Instrument dials to be done soon also.I hope you can see some of this through the glazing once its all done.Adios, Jimbob...

dude_gan_ainm
Cheers Jabba.Cockpit instruments have been painted but not photographed yet.I decided to replace the side glazing (will use 0.4mm Evergreen clear styrene)but will have to live with the MACH2 nose.So I cut out the windows & filled in one not used with Milliput. Also started on making a nightsun light. The kit one is close but a little big.If I make a hames of it I can fall back on that one.Up early soon for a busy Sunday. Will update with photos much later.I can't remember how to do it on the phone. dude_gan_ainm
Cheers Martin.Ok here's the photos of drastic cut & cleanup. The starboard doors are going to be changed to the earlier ones fitted (large front door & smaller non sliding rear door) so the windows are in a different position & different sizes, also no lower door window so it was filled with Milliput. Port ones cut out,you can see how thick they are. First side cleaned up & Nightsun started. No problem with visibility now but what would be best to fill in the windows?I tested the 0.4mm clear styrene & when bent a little you get a stress mark in the plastic & its not as clear as expected.Thiner plastic packaging/clear resin? All suggestions from you more experienced guys most welcome. Adios, Jimbob.
Nigel Heath
Some thin (0.2mm) clear PET sheet from some packaging would be my first thought. I can send you some if you don't have anything suitable. Cheers, Nigel
dude_gan_ainm
That's very kind of you Nigel.I rummaged through the recycling & found some clear PET & it looks about 0.2mm as well. Thanks for the offer & the info, your a gentleman. I'll go down this PET route for the windows soon. Jimbob...
dude_gan_ainm
Hi lads, its been a while since I updated this Squirrel.I tried out the PET plastic for the replacement windows & wasn't happy wiyh my first attempt.Second was bettter but still not 100% happy with it so decided to leave it for a while so I don't get bogged down with them.I cut down the plastic on the inside of the doors as they would look way too thick with the 0.2mm or so PET glazing.I came through too far on one door - a little filler will cover it up. Somehow I managed to glue the fuselage halves together.Theres a gap behind the rotor hub but that wont be seen anyway & a step along the bottom.I used Perfect Plastic Putty to fill in the gaps, first time I've used it.Sanded smooth & a light coat of Mr. Surfacer also sanded down.Hope to get some more done tomorrow. dude_gan_ainm
Didn't get much done but some progress.Used diluted white glue to secure 5.3 grams under the cab, should be enough I guess.I brushed Tamiya X-25 Clear Green on the roof windows.Polished the nose glazing with Micro-gloss liquid abrasive & then a coat of Future.Tis nice n shiny but still a bugger to see clearly through. Off to Germany for a few days so no modelling till next week, bummer. Jimbob... ..

dude_gan_ainm
Sure is Jabba, just shows up my lack of model knowledge I guess,I hope she's strong enough - I'm confident!Sorry for the double post earlier. These are the shots I tried to post. Got another bit done.Used Milliput to fill in the gaps & puffed out the tailrotor panel a little & gave it a bit of detail which it was lacking.A quick dryfit & she's starting to transform into a Twin Squirrel now.Time to let the Milliput harden for now, more soon.
