adt70hk
n Ahhhh I see now. Thanks Andrew. I am enlightened! And how brilliant for you and your son. Keep it up and cherish it while it lasts! Sadly, my sons have grown up and aren't that keen on modelling any more, despite me buying them some! I say that, but one is going into engineering and designing motorbikes... yeeeuuuk! Regards, Badder. No problem at all!! Hopefully he'll take to it long term as he has a good eye for detail and an above average attention span for an 8 year old! He got the 1300 piece VW Lego camper van at Christmas and assembled it single-handedly in only 6 or 7 hours...... .....and it's 'rated' as a 16+ kit!

PlaStix
Hi Badder. Good to see more progress although you did promise photoS later but, as of 18.54, I only spot one! I'm looking forward to seeing more photos later.
Badder
I did say that I was going to paint the skylight cover. Well, I haven't. I've cheated. I just sprayed the bare part with acrylic matt varnish then slopped on some MIG Dark Earth Wash. Looks fine. Job done! TFL, Badder.

I'm looking forward to seeing more photos later. Sorry Stix, The lighting is awful at the moment and battery is flat on camera. I will charge it up and move to a room without low-energy darkbulbs. Badder
I would like to see, pops cooling down ... lol, cheers Badder Hi Francis, I've just taken a break from my Carry on Regardless dio, and took to dry brushing the Quad, carriage and gun instead. Just a little of lightened green, nothing else. I will get cracking on the driver so I can get him seated, the glazing done and the top fitted. I will glue the top down. Not interested in being able to lift it off to see the interior or the engine. That way, damage lies. Still debating on whether to replace the tarp on the roof with a scratch one, and considering adding a rail to the back of the roof to secure stowage. A very old one. I think it's 2009. Unfortunately no WIP for it, but have a look. I am a numpty when it comes to giving links, but I shall try. .... I've had a search for it all across BM and it seems to have disappeared. Rearguards, Badder Edited March 11, 2016 by Badder

Badder
These might help. Well I hope they do. foxy Thanks Foxy. The top photo is interesting. I've seen various 'frames' on the roofs of Quads, but that's a new one on me. I assume they were non-standard and fitted in the field. Rearguards, Badder. foxy
Hi Badder mate. If your referring to the frame that holds the 25 Pdr base plate on top rear, this was standard. foxy
Badder
Hi Badder mate. If your referring to the frame that holds the 25 Pdr base plate on top rear, this was standard. foxy The circular base for the 25pdr is slung underneath the gun trail itself, as per the photo. I didn't realise that the tractor in the photo isn't a Ford Quad... it looks very similar at the rear, except for the frame. So yes, I take your word on it that the frame was standard. Badder
Taking a break from my Carry on regardless diorama, I've just drilled out the muzzle brake on the 25pdr. A simple job if you just happen to have the exact diameter drill. I won't bother posting photos as a photo would just show some plastic missing. foxy
Not trying to be pedantic. The Base for the 25 Pdr to rotate on was carried on the top rear when traveling. The first picture shows the brackets that held this in place. As I expect you know the gun/howitzer had two roles. Artillery and AT. The base was used mostly for the AT role, so the gun could switch direction quickly. but many pictures show it in both roles and being carried as you have it. foxy

It's just that the vehicle itself is not a Canadian Ford Quad, but one of the variants. I personally haven't seen any Ford Quads fitted with any fame. I have seen modellers scratch-building similar frames, but whether they were copying from photos or not, I don't know. Still... thanks for the photos and info. Badder
Taking a break from reworking my Villers Bocage dio, I have recommenced work on the Quad, adding the final small parts to the gun and the limber carrier. Still more work to do on the quad itself, with the glazing, driver, wing mirrors and stowage to add before everything can receive a final weathering and coat of matt varnish. Badder
Progress report.... Quad and limber have been given more washes of dark green and dry brushing with a lighter blue-green. Dark earth weathering powder and graphite dust applied, both of which were rubbed in and then brushed off to add a bit of patina. The same processes will be carried out on the gun. Pics later today. Badder
Well, all that experimental pre-shading with yellow and orange has only influenced tiny parts of the model. I just tried my first ever application of a filter, using thinned down blue-green oil paints... dunno if that's what a filter is, but it's added a nice overall tint to the green. I will post photos but I had probs with my stupid laptop.. the cursor stuck then vanished. Toshiba continually altering the sequence of keys to reactivate it and had to search on line for the cure.
