1:72 CMR de Havilland Sea Venom FAW.53

The canopies have had their bath in Future, and the front and rear sections will then be masked and attached to the fuselage. After, of course, I paint the forward coaming and the aft turtle-deck. I'll probably smooth the front and rear canopies with the fuselage by using the wall plaster. I like to use that for this purpose since it can be smoothed with a damp brush - no sandpaper required.

It's hard to tell from these photos, but the center sliding section has the characteristic bulges above the crew's heads, with the pilot's bulge a bit larger than that for the navigator/radar guy. It looks really nice.

As I mentioned earlier, I ended up using both sets of vacuform canopies - the front and rear came from one and the center section from the other. I think this has happened on every one of these CMR resin kits that I've built! :)

I think everything else is ready to go on the main fuselage. Once these canopies are on, we can commence painting. It's about bloody time! :)

Cheers,

Bill

PS. I have to admit that I've also been wasting a lot of time with my new high resolution music player (FiiO X3 II), headphone amp (FiiO A3), and full-size headphones (Sennheiser HD 598SE). I've been re-ripping my CD collection into FLAC files to take advantage of the new hardware. After listening with your garden variety iPod-like devices for the last decade, this is like hearing the music again for the first time. What a difference!

Great shot of the top side of the canopy. I assume I can make the black pieces from thin card stock - what do they look like on the other side? They seem to be curved just a wee bit more than the canopy. How are they attached to the frame of the canopy?

They are nothing more than sheets of thin black PVC stuck directly onto the canopy

A bit of black decal will do fine.

Hi mates,

Priming has revealed some areas that need further attention. First, some small air bubbles here and there. Those should be pretty easy to fix. Second, the primer clearly shows some panel lines that need to be rescribed. I thought I had them all - and I'm still not entirely happy with the boom joints. Oh well, there is no rest for the wicked. :)

Chemotherapy again tomorrow. Ugh.

Is it just me, or have there been a lot of interruptions to this build? Maybe I should have taken those three days of peace and solitude, and used them to move this build forward instead of building that silly thing with bright fluorescent orange all over it. Gotta admit though, it does look kinda cool.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks, mates! I got a double whammy this time, as I had the usual side effects from the chemo, but combined with opiate withdrawal symptoms from my rehab program. Let me tell you, I was feeling pretty miserable and only now am I starting to come out of it. My kids and grandkids are all in town for the holiday weekend, so I hope I can feel OK for them. No time for modelling - maybe next week!

March 31 is D-Day for my rehab. That's the day that I discontinue all use of Fentanyl. I've been weaning down, and that's bad enough. I can't wait to see what stopping it completely does. I have to be off of it for a full seven days before I can start the new stuff. I guess that much time is needed to clear all of the Fentanyl out of the receptors in my brain cells. They need to be clear so the new stuff can attach. Ugh.

I just learned that once I go on the new drug, I have to discontinue alcohol. Completely. Like, are you kidding me? I need to have some more discussions with the doctor. This is a serious situation!

Cheers,

Bill

PS. Interesting conundrum. On the one hand, no opiate addiction and relief from constant pain. On the other no alcohol. What would you choose?

I was going to say you could drink Coopers Sparkling Ale to help with your withdrawal symptoms. I think Coopers is medicinal, well it is made in South Australia. If you get the tall bottles, there is sludgy (medicinal) bits at the bottom of the bottle, the wife won't drink the sludgy bits as she thinks it is too strong. I don't think anything bad comes from S.A.

If the quack said I can't drink alcohol I wouldn't care but if he said no more milk I would be cranky to say the least. I choose a glass of milk over a beer every day. So, I am a queer bugger.

You need to have some more discussions with the quack.

Best of British Luck (the best luck you can get) with this one Bill. I would have clicked 'like' on your story but there is nothing to like. Everyone needs a vice or something to relax with.

Ouch Bill, what a conundrum... they say that you can do without alcohol but I find, in moderation, it helps me relax. Probably a mental association but one founded on years of experience and social influence.

I think I'd ask around for a second opinion on pros and cons - not on the Internet, obviously!

I tried a neurostimulator about a year ago. It was a trial unit, where the electrodes are placed in the subdural space around your spinal cord and the controller/battery is worn on your belt. If it had worked well, then the battery would be surgically implanted, and the controller operated by radio. Unfortunately, I was one of the 10% who don't get any relief from it. I really wanted it to work, it's a fascinating technology.

Sorry to hear that Bill, S*ds law. I've come across SCS several times when I've been acting for Claimant's with chronic neuropathic pain. Our consultant pain management experts usually tell us it's something like a 50/50 chance if a trial will be successful - but they may be being cautious.

I just learned that once I go on the new drug, I have to discontinue alcohol. Completely. Like, are you kidding me? I need to have some more discussions with the doctor. This is a serious situation!

Very serious....although I've been alcohol free for the last month for Lent (annual willpower test!!!) - and (whisper it) I do feel healthier and have lost weight too.......So I guess there are coincidental benefits to be had?

Good luck with the ongoing rehab Bill. It's bl**dy impressive so far.
