Llandudno air show cancelled

The CAA need to tackle the causes of things like Shoreham, rather than try to legislate for prevention of the symptoms, succeeding only in making the future of smaller shows uncertain by means of over restriction.

At the very least, they should wait for the investigation to be completed, before redefining policyon the basis of what are likely to be faulty assumptions.

Shame, as I rather liked that show cos you could sit in/near your car all day scoffing butties and not have to walk anywhere. My kind of airshow :) here's to a safe return in 2017 after the furore of the CAA changes and Shoreham fall-out has been processed and adapted to. Gotta love an airshow

Totally agree wait and see what the outcome is of the AAIB investigation and what there recommendations are !

I can't see how they (CAA) can come up with new rules without knowing the cause of the accident at Shoreham by doing this they are putting a lot of organisers off from holding an event and what with the new charges it dose not bode well for UK airshows.

There are some interesting points raised in the AAIB bulletin issued last year if you read it. I think that the CAA may well be carrying out more stringent checks using the rules that are already in place rather than producing new rules. There are a number of questions that the AAIB / CAA need to get answers to, not the least of which is should the Hunter have been flying at all?

The section relating to the ejector seat and the ejector mechanism maintenance is a bit of an eye opener. From the way it reads, there does appear to be doubt within the report, that the rules in place were being strictly followed and dare I say only receiving lip service. And it continues.

Bearing in mind 11 people on the ground were killed, I think the AAIB will be going through this incident with a fine tooth comb to ensure as far as possible, this never happens again. Personally, I would rather that there were no displays of "private" fast jets at all this year or next year if need be, if it meant that in the future there was no risk of an incident at an air show and we could all enjoy them in relative safety.

As for the rise in fees, maybe someone at the CAA has realised the amount of work needing to be done to approve an air show and has adjusted the fees to reflect that?

There is no such thing as "no risk" unless you cancel ALL airshows.

The accident was a tradgedy, but lets not destroy a very important sector of the UK leisure industry - AND charity fund raising, with an over-reaction and a price hike on all the fees.

Sure with this level of fees the CAA will make sure air shows are safer because there will be none - Llandudno is just he first to cancel, watch out for lots more doing the same over the next few weeks.

Everything has to be scrutinised by the CAA to allow an aircraft to renew its permit to fly including all records of maintenance there has to be a paper trail for everything!!

Even the work area and tools are inspected and the CAA will do an audit on a aircraft operator and the maintenance area ( hangar ) to make sure everything is ok and to work with the operator and help where required.

I think in the UK we have the best safety rules and regulations and yes the CAA are there to help.

The charges are going to be cause for concern for pilots ( operator ) and event organisers and it will have a knock on effect for everyone who is involved with an event and as has been said by Kallisti charities will be hit !

The CAA are saying its to recoup the costs so how has it that its been working for so many years without them recouping the costs ???
