Pappy
G'day people, This is my just finished Cobra. Things were going well until I manage to drop it off the bench. remedial work followed but I lost little motivation for a while but it got to the finish line eventually. The scenic base is from another and probably not appropriate, but it does provide a little contrast to better showcase the kit, cheers, Pappy
Alan P
Nice! Definitely one of the best Cobra schemes from that era. What's the kit/scale? Al

Pat C
Very nice Cobra Pappy - how was the Az Models kit to build - any issues? Pat
albymoore
Sharp looking Snake! Gotta love an AH-1 with a shark mouth on it. I've got the S/H version and thought about building as one of the sister ships to this one. Cheers, Albert Edited February 3, 2016 by albymoore
Pappy
Very nice Cobra Pappy - how was the Az Models kit to build - any issues? Pat G'day Pat, no real dramas apart from those of my own making. OOB, the canopy is closed, so you will need to cut open the doors if you want them open. I destroyed a canopy on my first attempt but AZ were very generous and supplied a replacement. The canopy is a tad thick and will sit proud at the front and back unless thinned from the inside. Cutting open the access doors helped the fit and meant I Only needed to thin the front of the canopy a little. My placement of the front instrument panel may also have contributed to the canopy fit issue as well. I used the later 'toilet bowl' exhaust suppressor so I did not need to add the PE plates below the engine exhaust, but the instructions are very vague vis the correct placement and orientation of these - check your ref's. The gun turret is comprised of a basic shell with various gun apertures added. the fit of these was a little tricky and you need to apply some care to ensure a good fit an alignment. Otherwise, it was a quick and easy build. Sharp looking Snake! Gotta love an AH-1 with a shark mouth on it. I've got the S/H version and thought about building on of the sister ships to this one. Cheers, Albert G'day Albert, It is a sharp scheme and it just looks so right! It took a lot more masking than I realised. There seems to be some conjecture on the colour of the fin leading edge, some builds have it as black and others as O.D. I went with a half shade darker O.D. If I was to do this scheme again, i would definitely cut off the cockpit access steps and add them after painting to aid in masking the shark mouth. It was a real pain working around them! I also have a SH kit to build - I want to do an early AH-1G, so it will be interesting to compare and contrast the two different kits. The SH just has a little bit better detail all round, but I don't know if it will build better. The AZ kit went together with only a few minor niggles, cheers, Pappy Edited February 3, 2016 by Pappy

hacker
Now that's the ticket! Been looking for a scheme for one those. Question is it this a decals sheet that comes in the kit? If so l would like a scan of it and the colour instructions I like it! Nicely done
