Gray
The Gloster E28 (in background) first flew in 1939 and was Britain's first jet. It was used as a test bed for the engine. The Meteor (foreground) first flew in 1943 and served in WWII, but wasn't allowed to be flown over German held territory for fear they may capture a downed one. Was also used in chasing down V1 flying bombs.

Graham Boak
If they weren't allowed to fly over enemy territory, how come there was this action against a Fieseler Storch? I think the statement requires some qualification as to period.
malpaso
Gray, Err, I think the E28 Whittle jet didn't fly till 1941. But a nice picture nonetheless. Cheers Will

Gray
My mistake, Malpaso. Should have said specification issued in 39 and first flew in 41. Thanks for clarification on the flight ban over Germany, Martin. Thanks all. Cheers.
