LaurieS
Some progress at last. Very nice to work with the new Airfix plastic. Also for the first time i have enjoyed working with PE. Used the little PE bending machine which has made life easier and also more accurate. This is my progress. Please feel free with any constructive criticism. SeanM
Very nice! It's the only Op Herrick kit I haven't got....yet. Was the PE in it or optional extra?
LaurieS
Hi Shaun and thanks for the comments. The PE was an optional extra. I think they are getting difficult to get. Certainly the Jackal was recently. This place still has stock. Also has the Warrior. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000029.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk%2facatalog%2fairfix-military-vehicles.html&WD=airfixwarrior&PN=Operation_Herrick_Afghanistan.html%23aAX65004# Laurie

LaurieS
Nice PE bending, looks a nice kit to build. Yes it is a nice kit. Really enjoying it. Built the Landrover MK1k and the Jackal and it is amazing the difference to all three as to how you go about it. Laurie

LaurieS
Looking good, but you have posted the same post a few times mate ;-) Yes I have had this problem for the last 6 months. Link more than one pictures and it doubles them up. Photobucket have tried to solve but cannot so it has becoming darn trying. Happens on any forum so I am putting it down to Photobucket. Tried removing the second set but I am prevented in edit. :banghead: Laurie

exdraken
great, great work! taking note.... do you have any idea on what to do about the slat armour?
LaurieS
Hi Thanks for your reply. Not sure what you mean. But I am going to finish it with the armour protection. I do regret two things. First the armour spoils a very nice vehicle but obviously the criteria is to protect the men inside the vehicle. i would think that if it had not been an add on it would have been designed in and looked a very nice military vehicle. Pity that there is not PE in place of the plastic for the Armour. Airfix have produced rather an ugly looking detail. The slats are square whereas in the real they are thinnish blades. But I have another to build at some time. But the second will not have the armour protection. Have you one to build ? Laurie
Niall
I looked at designing a PE replacement for the kit parts. However I could not find enough details of the mounting on the hull especially at the corners. Also the corner sections would be very difficult to assemble as they cannot be made in 1 piece and folded up. I am looking at designing some 3D prints for the engine compartment bulkheads, driver's instrument panel, inner periscope ends and gun breeches in the turret that Airfix left out of the kit!
LaurieS
Hi sorry do not have your name. That would be a great improvement. I have the Red Zebra kitbags etc and the crew which are all first class. But the engine compartment and drivers area are very dismal and Airfix have definitely let them selves down for what is basically a very nice model. There is just nothing in that area but a seat for the driver. I am going to build another Warrior after I have built all the collection for the British Afghanistan listed below. This without the armour which was an add on. If you manage to get some or all of the items you have mentioned above please let me know as I will be your first customer.
