Hunter Rose
Just a quick update, im continuing to build up the feet. 20170119_133519 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170119_133911 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170119_134320 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170119_134729 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170119_134735 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And I've done something I've been meaning to do for a while, cut off the chin hump bit that im really not happ with and smooth it over. 20170120_131625 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170120_131835 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170120_132111 by Nick Frost, on Flickr But the main reason for this update is i have some exciting helmet news! One of the many damn plastic eggs i bought when i was first screwing around with the helmet actually fits in the way i want it to! 20170120_133228 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170120_133240 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I think when i first got them i was thinking visor, but now im using the whole thing (ala Prometheus style as mentioned earlier) it works. So pleased as it will work better with my lighting ideas and it's nice to have a concrete simple solution sorted! Thanks for looking, more soon

Hunter Rose
Right, little more done on this guy, I've carried on building up and smoothing over the feet and lower leg 20170123_133127 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170123_133153 by Nick Frost, on Flickr They're a bit big and chunky because im going to carve out the detail, and i have done the joint covers for the knee. 20170123_135048 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170125_132705 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170125_132838 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170125_133550 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170125_134233 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So next up I'll shape the feet more and I'll begin to rework the to of the torso to build up a collar for the helmet. Will Vale
That helmet is bangin'. It's crying out for no-use-in-real-life-but-awesome-in-movies uplights for the face too. And a big floodlight on top. W

It's crying out for no-use-in-real-life-but-awesome-in-movies uplights for the face too. And a big floodlight on top. W Exactly!! I've found this flexible led tubing that lights up, planning on having it inside the inner rim of the helmet so a ring of light will be uplightling his face, and yeah a light on top too. Going to have some spring tube going down the back of it into the jet pack concealing the wires, again like you say I'm kind of going for looks over function; I want to try and get the cabling squeezed into some spring tube and have it exposed in a Derek Stenning kind of way (but not so extreme with it flying all over the place). There will be cables for the led in his laser, which like the picture will have a power lead coming from the handle to his pack, and I'm tempted to make a wrist mounted touch screen control monitor for his other forearm which will be lit up.
Hunter Rose
Another update to show some foot work (dont worry not my dancing!) I've been carving out details to help give the impression that the foot hinges on the lower leg armor. So marked out where i wanted the hinge to be and got the tools out. 20170126_132413 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_132622 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_133007 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_133248 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_133637 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_133641 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_133938 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_134246 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170126_134452 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So next I'll continue working on that and defining the foot shape more, and then the task of making the other one match! My word just noticed the start date for this topic was a year ago tomorrow!! Blimey didn't realise it had been so long, this is now by far my longest running project but probably my favourite
Hunter Rose
Okay another little update, want to add some padding to the top and back of the foot as more flexible padding where the foot pivots on the lower leg armor. 20170127_130924 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Also just gave the lower leg a bit of a rake to smooth out the bumps a bit just while i was thinking about it. 20170127_131241 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170127_131608 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170127_132149 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170127_132820 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170127_133644 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170127_134034 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Next up I'll continue to shape & smooth, and I'll add a bit of detail to the hinge of the lower leg and the heel and toe cap of the foot. Hunter Rose
Had some sculpt time on my lunch break so did a little more. Wanted to add a circular impression as a bit of hinge detail, but before i did that i had to thicken one side that was a little thin. 20170130_131403 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And as well as the hinge i rolled out some sculpey and began the foot cap and heel details. 20170130_134442 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170131_132504 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170131_132531 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170131_134824 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170131_134841 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Next up i need to sort out the underside of the foot a bit so its flat and i can blend the heel in more so its firmly stuck on. S5 modeller
Really like the boot details you're forming there. Looks "right", very mechanical. Matt
Hunter Rose
Thanks Matt I had intended to keep the feet fairly simple, but on a whim I decided to show the foot to have two parts for flexibility when walking. So started by marking out the design, then began carving out material with a ball stylus 20170201_131014 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_131024 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_131223 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i thought the bit sticking out needs a recess (just felt like the right thing to do) so i marked another area and resumed removing the sculpey in that area with various tools, being careful to preserve my straight edges. 20170201_131342 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_131428 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_131729 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_131941 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_132410 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_132416 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_132659 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then once I'd removed enough I evened out the area by rubbing a ball stylus over it. 20170201_132730 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And then i used a spatula tool to smooth it all over. 20170201_133354 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_134148 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170201_135118 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I did blend the heel rim in a bit more but its not really noticeable in these pics. Next up i need to work on the heel a bit more to square it up where i smoothed the edge. Thanks for looking, more soon
Will Vale
That looks pretty cool, are you going to add cut-in details to any of the other rigid armour parts? Will
Hunter Rose
1 hour ago, Will Vale said: That looks pretty cool, are you going to add cut-in details to any of the other rigid armour parts? Will Cheers Will! Yeah i think i will, im really happy with how the foot looks so I'll try to mirror similar details on the limbs to tie it all together. Im going to have to rework the chest to accommodate a collar for his helmet, so while I'm at it I'll drop the rounded shape and make it more squared off in a similar way too. S5 modeller
Wow, those feet look great! The detail you've added around the toe area really reminds me of judge dredds boots, in a good way. They look well up for prodding some alien butts. I think some heavy tread on the soles would really set them off, maybe make them like magnetic boots. Just my thoughts, feel free to ignore me. Hunter Rose
Cheers Matt! I am really pleased with it, though now i have the task of making the other foot look the same (damn humans with our TWO feet!) Definitely going to add some heavy tread, for when a laser just isn't enough!

Hunter Rose
Update time! I have been sculpting the right foot to match the left, which is a bit of a pain, going a bit crazy sculpting then measuring with calipers adjusting and smoothing. Below is the process of me thickening the lower leg, and then tweaking the foot shape to match the other. Sorry its a bit pic heavy, im considering just filming myself sculpt it might be easier when doing so many tweaks! 20170202_134551 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170203_131521 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170203_132630 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170203_133634 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_131427 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_132257 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_132730 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_132807 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_133023 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_134106 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170207_134118 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170208_133002 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170208_133219 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170208_133559 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170209_133002 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170209_133642 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170209_133810 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170209_134313 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170209_134909 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And after all that, the foot is a little long when i checked! So next up I'll trim it down and re add the toe rim once I've smoothed it over and reworked the shape a little.
