Okay got more done on this guy, first off the helmet is on so thats great!

Started by adding a ring of greenstuff to the lip of the helmet and then after giving him a clingfilm cagoule so its doesn't stick (as I'll need to paint the inside before its sealed away) i pressed it on and left it to dry.

Once dry I gave him a test fit and there was still a slight gap at the back so i did the same again which came out better, and then got a tin of paint out and got some black on it.

This was actually way more fiddly than it looked too, as the green stuff had curled round inside the edge I needed to get in some really awkard angles which weren't possible with the helmet stuck together. So after a bit of head scratching I took a saw and some superglue to my paint brush and came up with this

49829912891_ff3062f568_c.jpgIMG_20200427_110931 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

The toilet duck of paint brushes

And so now its stuck on in place

49829383968_4f427e3a82_c.jpgIMG_20200427_190438 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

And also I started detailing the jet pack parts, did some scribing and got the styrene bits out

And I got the fan parts stuck to a piece of styrene and primed them and the grill ready for some painting, I will paint the grill black then mask it off as it will stay black.

49829385803_47babffc90_c.jpgIMG_20200425_134027 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Then I decided to add a frame to the grill opening with some t shaped strip, so I cut some peices with a little mitre guide to get the angles for the corners.

And continued adding bits to the back plate

49830223967_d9ee34d52c_c.jpgIMG_20200425_154146 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Used some guitar string to add some pipes

Then i decided to add some grab rail details so I got the styrene covered wire out

Then I started adding a few details to the top

49830222717_89fd9f90b8_c.jpgIMG_20200426_163822 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Last thing I did was add the fan bits to a larger piece of styrene in readiness of getting it in position, and painted it black.

49829383503_8495f6888f_c.jpgIMG_20200427_111852 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Once dry I painted the fans yellow (and forgot to take a pic!)

Next up I'm going to start getting the backpack pieces together and add details to the sides and the bottome where the jet nozzle will go.

Feels so close to the end now!!!! Cant wait, when its together I'm going to give this a blast of alclad metalics so it'll be a fairly quick paint session.

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

Right update time!

I've been continuing to work on the jet pack detailing, I started by getting the fans behind the grill sorted, gave them some paint and walled them off so you cant see past them into the jetpack interior (though it'll be so dark I doubt it will make a lot of difference)

49854254418_c500a86c21_c.jpgIMG_20200501_155927 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

I then glued them in place after painting the grill black and then masked it off to protect it from the jet pack painting stage

49855094112_b3aeb513b0_c.jpgIMG_20200501_161953 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Then after I gave the back panel a blast of primer to tie it all together and see how it looks

49854793156_4686531eb9_c.jpgIMG_20200501_153130 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

For the sides I found some left over vector nozzles from a 1/48 f-22 raptor that I'd painted in an Evangelion Unit 1 style so added them on

49855094562_fa9c26c43b_c.jpgIMG_20200501_160410 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

I then primed the top and decided to get it all together before I did anymore

49854791956_3cefb7f52c_c.jpgIMG_20200502_162733 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Added some extra little bits of styrene to fill a couple of edge gaps

49854253253_d096455965_c.jpgIMG_20200504_133615 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

And then I added more details to the sides and gave the whole thing a blast of primer

Next up I'm going to get the bottom sorted, and then it will be time for some paint!

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

Cheers Brian!

Done some more on this, noticed a slight crack in the larger support tentacle, so I filled it with some filler (funny eh?) and then after a light sanding painted over more of the same base blue enamel colour

49862865673_82c6d4e925_c.jpgIMG_20200506_142855 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Also I superglued on the jet engine piece and sprayed the whole thing gloss black in preparation for some alclad metallics

49862866013_eb52b975aa_c.jpgIMG_20200506_142153 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

49863401746_ee9c08db8f_c.jpgIMG_20200506_142201 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

And once that was dry I sprayed the whole jetpack with alclad airframe aluminium, followed by going round the edges and some details with steel. Then finally used some jet exhaust to add some burn marks to the side jets and the main jet, and also darkened the cables on the back and used it to spray a little shadow behind the detail on the left side where the wrist computer cables will attach.

Really happy with how that went, feels like ages since I've used my airbrush!

Next up when its dry I'll take the masking tape off the grill vent and paint some of the details with a brush.

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

Fun fact- David Graham, the voice of Zippy, was also the Daleks in the 70s/80s, and had several roles in Thunderbirds.

That's crazyy, I didn't know that but now I think about the voices I can see the similarities (and the thought of a dalek with Zippys voice is hilarious!!)

Thanks for sharing

UPDATE!!

Got the masking tape removed from the vent on the jet pack and painted on some details with enamel paints

49878055687_e08966ebb7_c.jpgIMG_20200507_153718 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Next I wanted to get it stuck on, and the back is pretty uneven, so I got some green stuff onto the back and after putting some clingfilm over I pressed a cd case into it just to get it all flat and level, and did the same on the jet pack just to be doubly sure

49878055572_5ac03ab98c_c.jpgIMG_20200507_154604 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

49877214038_3e71c00d30_c.jpgIMG_20200508_133515 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Then I painted it black and got it superglued on, and then superglued the spring tubes from the wrist computer into a couple of holes I had drilled

49877749686_3ed6451332_c.jpgIMG_20200508_190929 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

Then the last little job was to get some more short lengths of spring tube and insert some wire so I could bend it into shape and glue it from the top of the jet pack into the two holes in the back of the suit neck

49878054717_384c4b5dee_c.jpgIMG_20200509_120201 by Nick Frost, on Flickr

And that means its done!! Its actually done!!!

Thanks to everyone who commented and followed along, it really helped get me through the build and make it fun!

Heres a link to the final pics

Well then. It's been quite a journey and I must say just a little sad to see it end.

Yeah it does feel weird that it's done! But dont worry there'll soon be another :)

It’s over. Huh. Odd feeling, really; one of the first posts I made here was on this thread. Still, he’s come out beautifully, you should be proud.

Wow that's cool! Yeah my 4 year old was only a couple of months when I started it which feels crazy to me!

Thanks for the compliments really appreciate it :)
