Hiya Folks,

I started this one 5 days too early as I didn`t realise that there was a start date for the GB and thought that because there were posts open it was OK to start building,.....dohh!! Anyway,....as a result it is finished early but I hope that you like it anyway.

The subject is fabric winged Hurricane Mk.I, L1669 `Colly`s Battleship' wearing an early desert finish in Egypt during 1940-41, as seen in the accompanying photo which I bought recently. This aircraft was sent to Egypt for tropical trials and with war looming against Italy the AOC Egypt Air Commodore Raymond Collishaw CB, DSO & Bar, OBE, DSC, DFC (of WW1 RNAS fame) used this single Hurricane to fly in and out of airfields close to the Libyan border to make the Italians think that the RAF had a larger force of Hurricane`s in the Middle East.

The build thread is here;

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234996197-collys-battleship-hurricane-mki-l1669-fabric-wing-egypt-1940-airfix-172nd-kit-converted-finished/

And here is the finished model, built using the 1/72nd scale Airfix fabric winged Hurricane Mk.I with a SAM resin tropical filter, spares box Spitfire 5 spoke wheels and a hand made pitot under the wing;

DSCF7003_zps5nfuxnka.jpg

DSCF7026_zpsonxip6y0.jpg

DSCF7013_zpsgwrkajeo.jpg

I`ve tried to replicate painted out serials under the wings as I assume that these would have been removed as part of the deception plan against the Italians, As usual this model was mostly brush painted apart from the white undersides which came from a rattle can.

All the best

Tony

Hiya Folks,

Here is my third model, its the Hasegawa 1/48th Hurricane Mk.IIc built as an aircraft from 1 Sqn SAAF, 258 Wing, North Africa, 1942, brush painted as usual using Polly Scale and Aeromaster acrylics and using Xtradecal`s with RAF spares box roundels and fin flashes replacing the orange centred SAAF markings from the sheet. The outboard pair of 20mm cannons were deleted on this aircraft and most others from 1 Sqn SAAF at this time in order to improve speed and manoeuvrability against the Bf 109F & G.

Hiya Folks,

Here is my 1/48th scale Hasegawa Hurricane Mk.IIb kit built as BG827/ W of 273 Sqn, Hurricane Mk.IIb, flown by Warrant Officer Zayzezeirski when the unit was based at Ratamalana in Ceylon during September 1943, a photo of the real aircraft shows that it was not fitted with a Vokes filter. Unfortunately Zayzezeirski was killed in this aircraft on the 29th October 1943 after hitting a tree during a dummy attack on his home airfield,

The model was brush painted using Humbrol Earth Brown, Polly Scale Dark Green and Sky Blue undersides were replicated using Aeromaster Finnish Light Blue. The blue and white roundels and fin flashes are from a RAAF Mitchell and the code `W' was made up using seperate `V's' to try to replicate the right style, with serials from a Ventura serial sheet. The WIP is here;http://www.britmodel...e-morefinished/

And here is the model;

DSCF7390_zpsodgua4ar.jpg

DSCF7354_zpscnk4osiz.jpg

DSCF7356_zpsh1onncsw.jpg

I wanted the model to look slightly sun bleached by going for a lighter shade of brown and hopefully thats what it looks like?

Cheers

Hiya Folks,

Here is another finished Hurricane, this time replicating a Canadian based Hurricane Mk.XII from 135 `Bulldog' Sqn. RCAF. It was built using the 1/48th scale Hasegawa Mk.IIb kit which was brush painted using Polly Scale Dark Earth, Dark Green and Humbrol Sky. The decals came from a variety of sources with roundels, fin flashes and stencils coming from Flightdecs, codes and serial from Sky Decals and codes for the wheel doors and under nose coming from Ventura decals generic 1/32nd serials. The Hamilton Standard propeller is from a Revell Ventura kit and the tropical vents in the fuselage side, vents in the engine side cowling and the oil collector strip were all removed as these were not present on this aircraft. Here is the WIP;http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997122-148th-hasegawa-hurricane-mkxii-135-sqn-rcaf-canada-one-morefinished/

And here is the model;

DSCF7360_zpsryekfwg2.jpg

DSCF7357_zpstyt8wm58.jpg

DSCF7310_zpsnuy0xeop.jpg

How tempted was I to write `LOADED' across the gun patches but that was an Easern Air Command thing apparently and this 135 Sqn Hurri served in Western Air Command at RCAF Patricia Bay.

Cheers

My version, as a Mark 1 of Squadron Leader J.W.C. Simpson, 245 squadron, RAF Nutts Corner, late April/early May 1941.

Kit: Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk.1 [new tool]
I used resin exhausts, photo-etch seat belts, added an oil collector ring, exhaust glare shields, the bead sight and a rear view mirror.

Hiya Folks,....here is my 2nd 1/72nd Legato Hurricane Mk.IIc kit for this STGB,......it wears the markings of the Air Delivery Letter Service (ADLS) which despatched urgent mail between the UK and Normandy just after D-Day in the summer of 1944. The WIP is here;

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234999424-172nd-legato-hurricane-mkiic-x-2-met-flight-egyptian-air-force-1946-adls-normandy-1944-finished/

And here is the model,.....I tried to make it as worn looking as possible to match the available reference pics;

DSCF7578_zps9hxzfo85.jpg

DSCF7568_zpsjknmvcho.jpg

DSCF7570_zpsrdi0yhpy.jpg

I`ve got to say that I`m not altogether happy with either of my Legato Hurri`s as I rushed them toward the end as I was going away,....I may return to them at a later date and tidy them up,.....maybe add new canopies and props too?

As usual they are both brush painted and I hope that you like them,....all the best,

Cheers

Hi Guys!

After a severe loss of modelling mojo, this is finally complete.

Here is the Airfix 1/72 "new tool" Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, the "fabric-winged" machine. Nothing special has been done, it's just built OOB in the kit

decals, which represent an aircraft of No.111 Sqn, RAF in July 1938 which took part in a "Fete de l'Air" Bastille Day celebrationat Villacoublay, France

that year. Build thread is http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234996573-hurricane-mk1-111-sqn-raf-airfix-172-ragwing-oob/

There have been some great models posted in this gallery already, and I'm sure there are many more to come.

Thanks to Mish and then Enzo Matrix for setting up the GB, to Doug Rodgers and neu for the hosting. Good luck

to all those still working on models for this GB!

Mk.I Hurricane - L1592 KW-Z

No.615 Squadron, RAF Kenley, England, August 1940

Kit: Airfix 1/72 Starter Set

Extras: PropBlur, EZ Line aerial cable and some scratchbuilt bits and pieces - gun-sight, struts in the radiator, etc. I also thinned the trailing edge of the wings and removed the fabric moulding behind the armament bays - this work included a small amount of re-scribing.

Paints: Revell and Humbrol acrylics all applied by brush.

The base was made a while back for my first 1/72 Spitfire and all I have done is add the clear perspex rod to display the Hurricane.

WIP: Here

More photos: Here

My original intention was to display this and the other Hurricane I am building in a sort of diorama - but I think I'm going to be struggling for time to get the other one completed by the end of the GB - hence the reason why I'm posting this now.

Please note in the first photo I have removed the clear perspex rod in Photoshop. To take the photos I placed the base for the Hurricane on my Spitfire display shelf that has the sky image as a backdrop.

I've removed this as I had forgotten to take photos during the build and rule 5 says there should be progress photos to be able to have an entry in the gallery. Will have to remember next time!!!

Hi all,

This is my take on a hurricane mki tin wing from the lovely sunny island of malta! Based on the aircraft flown from Luqa by George Burges and Warby (less so). I was originally going to build this as the well known take on this aircraft as light blue and middle stone/dark earth on the tail. However I got some very helpful advice from the well informed Tony O'toole that this was incorrect, I took on board all his information nd came out with the below.... so cheers to him for this.

Painted with tamiya gloss royal blue, matt coat and then weathered using many colours of pastels to get the dusty worn look.
