Heller 1/72 L-749 Connie

Recommended Posts

Every modeller's cabinet or shelf needs one of these, I am calling it finished even though I will do a few little things with a paint brush here and there tomorrow, I just wanted take a few pictures and experiment with my flash and tripod. I totally buggered up the nose decal and had to resort to home made decal coupled with with a bit of masking and paint..the curves were just too complex to have any hope of any decal conforming.

I've got that kit and I was toying with the idea of getting those markings for it, it does look mighty pretty and if I could do anything close to what you've done there I'd be well pleased.

Good effort, well done!

Beautiful result - and good save around the nose.

Most visible in pic #5, nice work in the subtle differences in the silver finish. Very impressive.

Cheers,

Mike

:goodjob: I really like the finish on the silver paint. Any info?

hiya old salt, my preferred subject matter has me going the silver finish quite often, I have tried various techniques and products and have found a few that I mix and match for variety, eg:

This Carvair was done exclusively with Alclad over gloss back, the variations in Alclad shades can be quite stark when sprayed over the gloss black.

The Ambassador was sprayed with Tamiya rattle can silver leaf whic was then buffed with polishing compound on a soft dremel wheel, this breaks up the uniformity of the silver and makes it look more like a random metal finish

After this process I also sprayed a few panel with shades of Alclad, the vriations are quite subtle when applied over the "turned" silver base coat I do like the affect.

With the Connie I did not "turn" the base coat rattle can silver but applied various shades of alcld over the top. Again variations are subtle change with the angle of light..again the result please me,

so you see it is horses for courses!

Very nice builds. Always liked the Heller Constellations and Super Constellations. Hope you have enough shelfspace for them!

Cheers,

Mario

Hello Mario over the years I have given many models away because I had run out of shelf space.. I couple of years ago I bought 2 display cases to multiply my shelf space and get them all out of dust collection mode!

I have room for a few more plus I can get more in if I put a few on stands like the Stratocruiser and Vulcan

cheers
