Roof Rat
Hello Fights On Good to hear from you, glad you liked the previous posts, the honest answer is I not to sure I joined the RN (FAA) at 15 back in 1971, they were well established then, taking an educated guess I would think this version of FD tractor (4wd / 4ws) was introduced early to mid 1960's. You never know a version of it may well find its way on to the new carriers. If I can be of anymore help just give me a shout. RR
ark4
Hi Pappy I just received my model box today. Did yours have instructions in? Mine came without and I wondered if I might be able to get a copy from you. Martin

NG899
Hi everyone, Pappy that's a very nice looking tractor you have there! Getting images of this wee beastie to help the guys at Kinetic was really hard and I now realise I should have put a call out on BM top get your inputs so that they could have done both early and late options. Roof Rat - any clues on the SHAR in the image above, Squadron and year? The deck markings appear to be Hermes, so dare I punt at 800 NAS about March 1983 and Ex Arctic Express? Kirk, you're right about the ladder on the SHAR - it could only be fitted on the starboard side, there were sprung doors on the cockpit sides to fit it into. Cheers Nick

Always nice to get design authority confirmation Nick! Just out of interest, could the doors be used as footsteps for unassisted entry/exit? Pappy
Hi Pappy I just received my model box today. Did yours have instructions in? Mine came without and I wondered if I might be able to get a copy from you. Martin G'day Martin, Yes, my kit came with a printed booklet, but as I mentioned, the instructions do not mention the Harrier boarding ladder. I will try and get a scan of the instructions and send them to you. I don't actually owna scanner but I have one available at work if you can wait a couple of days, cheers, Pappy
Roof Rat
Hello Nick Here's the full picture if that helps, I wasn't on board Hermes this is just one of the many FD pictures I've collected over the years. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful RR

Pappy
G'day people, Thank you everyone for your comments, I really appreciate them. To be honest, I am a little overwhelmed at the amount of interest that my little 'painting experiment' has generated, it was only ever intended as a heads up for anyone wanting to build a SHAR dio or vignette, but again thanks very much, cheers, Pappy Edited January 29, 2016 by Pappy
SimonR
Surely thats the real thing isnt it, just put on a really big bit of foam? Beautiful build Pappy! Cheers Simon
heloman1
Great build and finsh Pappy, I love the chipped paint effect even if it is a litle severe. To Roof Rats question re intruduction, they were probably introduced at the time of the Buccaneers and Phantoms to accomodate their extra weight. Incidently on the Bulwark in '66 we usd Styre-Pch Haflingers, we didn't need a meaty beast like this one. We were only pushing and pulling Wessi 5's around. AjD
AjD, essentially, you paint the chip colour first, spray on some hairspray and allow to dry and then paint your top colour. The top colour is scrubbed off using a paintbrush and water. If you enter search terms like " weathering models with hairspray" into your internet search engine you will find multiple tutorials for both this and the 'salt' method. There are also dedicated chipping fluids available through the 'usual suspects', I cannot say how these perform vis the hairspray. These products claim they are better, provide more control etc, blah blah blah (marketing). I went and bought a no name brand (the cheapest) form my local supermarket. I expect I will get several years worth of use from a single can. Thanks Pappy. I've heard of the salt method but might try this hairspray idea. It's clearly worked for you! AjD
Something else that occurs to me...what's an effective cleaner for your airbrush once you've fired hairspray through it?!
Pappy
Something else that occurs to me...what's an effective cleaner for your airbrush once you've fired hairspray through it?! The hairspray comes in an aerosol can - no need to spray through the airbrush
