BHX Plane spotting any tips

Recommended Posts

SWMBO has bought me tickets to a Villa game next month (no mocking please) as a birthday treat lol ( I know some treat) but as we are staying at BHX and were wondering where's best to take pics while there?

I'm told the viewing area is closed??? long time since I was at Elmdon any help & advice would be gratefully appreciated

There was a viewing area last time I was at BHX, however it was never convenient for my flights - so I've never actually been up there.

The departure areas are not really conducive for good photos either. Windows are partially obscured etc.

If you're staying at BHX, your hotel window might well be the best bet.

Google "BHX spotting guide" you should get some good info there. I'm lucky enough to be on the inside of the fence I see people at the parking lot for 33 departures and people at the park where some benches are beyond the airport boundary for 15 departures.

If you see a pilot waving at you from a UA 757... wave back at me !!

There is no spotting area, good places are either in the field/walking path on the A45 end or the Country Park.. You can get to both by car with free parking and a short walking trip.

The NCP on the south west side, near to the old tower is your best bet though IMO... They are having trouble with boy racers at night so the top 3 levels are shut off, but you can still park there and walk up (security are OK with this, if you see any just let them know, or police). It's where I go all the time if I'm visiting BHX.

Some shots from the NCP near the old tower..

From the A45 end on a walkway.

From the Country Park on the northern end of the airport.

Any questions just ask, I will get the road names where I park for the Country Park and the A45 end and post them shortly :)
