Hello all,

Having trouble finding the correct shade of grey for a French Navy Rafale.

Can anyone tell me the best colour to use? I've seen pictures where some look dark grey then others were they look lighter grey.

Thanks

Dave

36320 is the colour recommended by Skyraider Models and they know their French a/c.

French a/c are painted using the Celomer system and finding information on it within the public domain is like finding rocking horse poo. The only information I've ever found are the colours for the Mirage 2000C scheme. Even if we found the Celomer code I can guarantee that no one makes it anyway, so you'll be back to 36320.

Hi,

Here are the french military colors:

https://ereverra.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/ere_copie_couleurs_reference_def_fr.pdf

The document is not "secret":

French MoD uses this GAMC/Normdef color norm. (like FS for US, RAL for Germany..)

As for the Rafale grey I don't know wich one it is... but maybe one amongst those listed page 108.

A610? A611? A615?

Anyway, in humbrol you can try 126? 127? 128? maybe a tricky mix...

In Gunze, H307? 308?

Good luck!

Romain

  • 2 years later...

For Rafale, there is another problem : if you find the right color used, its shade is modified by the other layers applied above it to limit IR or radar detection. I saw the difference on a picture where one Rafale and the Mirage 2000B 501 from DGA EV were parked side by side. Rafale grey has been applied on the Mirage 2000B but without any of the other layers. The both greys were different... 🤔

Confirmed by the guys who use this peculiar Rafale test-bed Mirage 2000... 🤨
