DaveJL
Hello all, Having trouble finding the correct shade of grey for a French Navy Rafale. Can anyone tell me the best colour to use? I've seen pictures where some look dark grey then others were they look lighter grey. Thanks Dave
PhantomBigStu
When it comes to modern french colours, nobody knows what they use, left to the modelelr to pick what they think looks right, which is generally suggested to be FS36320
cardiff guy
According to the new Syhhart decals set, Dark gull grey fs. 36231 Humbrol 140 . for the french air force satin medium grey air superiority fs 36293 Humbrol 75% 126 and 25% 128. scotthldr
36320 is the colour recommended by Skyraider Models and they know their French a/c. French a/c are painted using the Celomer system and finding information on it within the public domain is like finding rocking horse poo. The only information I've ever found are the colours for the Mirage 2000C scheme. Even if we found the Celomer code I can guarantee that no one makes it anyway, so you'll be back to 36320. PhantomBigStu
Not joking, can't even find the name celomer in the public domain, anyway on a similar note, the green grey mirage scheme, which fs numbers?
scotthldr
The D/N colours are available from Xtracolor, although they might be discontinued X375 OTAN Gris Vert Fonce X376 OTAN Gris Bleu Fonce or Gunze H73 Gunze H317

rom1
Hi,Here are the french military colors:https://ereverra.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/ere_copie_couleurs_reference_def_fr.pdfThe document is not "secret":Norme Défense, © 2009, droits réservés.Commercialisation interdite sans accord spécifique.Reproduction et diffusion autorisées sous réserve de reproduire intégralement le présent avertissement. ie: Not for sale without permission. Reproduction et diffusion allowed unless all this warning is reproduced. French MoD uses this GAMC/Normdef color norm. (like FS for US, RAL for Germany..) As for the Rafale grey I don't know wich one it is... but maybe one amongst those listed page 108. A610? A611? A615? Anyway, in humbrol you can try 126? 127? 128? maybe a tricky mix... In Gunze, H307? 308? Good luck! Romain

Murph
Has anybody ever determined the correct AFNOR color (presumably in the A 6xx series) for the Rafale?  Regards, Murph
eclipse
For Rafale, there is another problem : if you find the right color used, its shade is modified by the other layers applied above it to limit IR or radar detection. I saw the difference on a picture where one Rafale and the Mirage 2000B 501 from DGA EV were parked side by side. Rafale grey has been applied on the Mirage 2000B but without any of the other layers. The both greys were different... 🤔  Confirmed by the guys who use this peculiar Rafale test-bed Mirage 2000... 🤨 Edited May 11, 2018 by eclipse
blaza
I was combining FS 36440 (Vallejo Model Air 71.121) and FS 36231 for final layer (Vallejo Model Air 71.277) for Rafale M.
