rob85
So hello all, This is my second GB and my hasn't it come around quick. This kit may kick of what can only be described as a radial period for me, after this I have the corsair GB and I have a hellcat in the wings! I have for this GB the hasegawa P-47 D in 1/72 I had always planned on doing this in SEAC scheme however I have some trouble with this, I have been looking for a set of transfers and ound these It's for FL-D which IS SEAC but I don't have a colour scheme for it closest I can find is FL-O.......Hmmmm Any pointers? However I an tempted to do my first American aircraft as the options that come with the kit look pretty good! Hmmmm still not sure on which to pick! Any thoughts from anyone? Basilisk
Hello Rob, I found this picture of HD185 in the RAF Thunderbolts booklet by Air Research. It looks like standard SEAC camouflage. Have fun building this kit. Cheers, Peter
Cookenbacher
I'll be following along for sure Rob. My vote is for an SEAC scheme, but definitely wouldn't complain about a USAAF bird.
Procopius
I've always been deeply saddened that no decals exist for this beauty: That has to be the happiest bird in the world.
trickyrich
Hi Rob, welcome aboard. I think you'll find almost everyone is in favour of the SEAC scheme, it appears to be a very popular one. The Thunderbolt does look good in it, but I wonder if it also due to people being scared of trying a NMF......know I am!. Anyway good luck with the build, nice you that you could join the fun, look forward to seeing her completed.
rob85
NMF is something I would like to try.... But I think it will be SEAC! Peter thank you for the pic of FL-D helps a lot! It doesn't have the playing card nose art on but I will assume that is because it is on the other side... This will be my first SEAC bird ever! Cookie, cheers for the vote, I think I will need to get a few Americans in the build pile as some point.... I mean the art work alone is a big draw! Which leads me on to you mr p, why is the name of God is there no transfer sheet for that beauty!! I think a strongly worded email to hannants is in order.... They could do a whole sheet of rude nose art..... Cheers all Rob
rob85
My first steps into the world of thunderbolt! Main airframe together and engine primed in black ready for detail... there is no cockpit detail to been seen so I won't bother showing you! Need to do a bit more work on internal colours after this Rob
Cookenbacher
Quick work Rob! You'll have it in an SEAC scheme in no time.

CedB
Just found this - better late than never, I'm in Big bottom Bird? Hmmm, chacun à son goût (takes all sorts)... certainly is a big bird though eh? Edit: hmmm again, apparently the 'a' word is filtered out by the auto-censor. rob85
But if you put bottom-with something else say bigass bird then it's fine! The p47 was a right beast as well, sit next to other single seaters and it makes them look like skinny super models! Rob
rob85
I have had another go at this one! Coming together nicely, nice kit but lacking in the finer detail, unlike tamiya's kits hase appear to lose a lot of detail when they go down to 1/72. The fit is still great and the external panel lines etc are great, but the finer things like wheel wells, tyres and cp's don't have much about them..... any way it's good for a quick build, I just won't look inside! Here we are. Engine detailed and then assembled Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr It needs it's little nose painting red.... but that can wait, oh and yellow tips Then I got it glued to the airframe and the tail planes on.... some people use a jig or lego I use this... Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr It's the jug that was used as the centre piece of wedding table.... perfect for single seater ☺, great example of my wife's great fore thought Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr All set and sanded, so after that I did some pre shading, let's see how that turns out! Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr I will micromesh and then on with some paint! Cheers all Rob

rob85
Cheers chaps, first coat of grey on the undersides and started the white stripes on the uppers so they can be masked before DE is liberally spread over the uppers to make a Cadbury coated jug! How did I missed the great lines of 'pair of jugs' or 'jug on jug' when I had the jug....well on a jug.... Ced where the hell were you when I needed you most!! rob85
As i said I have painted the white lines on the uppers and a few coats of grey for the undersides, I have also added to that two coats of DE to the uppers.... it has not gone on the best so will need a good micromesh! Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr White lines Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Two thinned coats Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr And the third of the grey by robert mulvey, on Flickr First thinned coat of DE by robert mulvey, on Flickr Just need touching up in places and then a good rub down with micromesh! I think I will try maskol for the camo pattern, just for fun Rob

Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Lots of surgical spirit involved. ... I may reopen my WIP if it works out.... anyone know of a way to get maskol out of a gun bay..... Cookenbacher
It's coming along nicely Rob, and it's to the point where I can imagine how cool the SEAC scheme is going to look.
rob85
Cheers cookie, I am really looking forward to this one actually and to doing more of the SEAC schemes if future! It's a really nice scheme on any aircraft, but this is my first time modelling it! Rob
