Tony Mollica
Hi Everyone, This is my entry into the GB. It's the Wolfpack Design F-5A, which I currently plan to finish in the box option RoKAF two tone grey scheme. However this is subject to change as I may be tempted by one of the decal sheets I have for this aircraftm, the Thai aircraft on the Microscale sheet is tempting me at the moment. I also have the Wolfpack Design Photo Etched fret for the Italeri kit, which I may incorporate into this build, but forgot to photograph. This is my starting point: Edited February 1, 2016 by Tony Mollica

modelling minion
Looks nice Tony. It would be nice to see a RoKAF machine but I can see why the Thai aircraft is tempting. Good luck with your build. Craig.

trickyrich
Welcome aboard Tony, sorry for not seeing this thread early, but am currently traveling around Europe as well as looking after the P-47 GB as well (feel free to join that one as well! ). That's a nice model you have brought along and I do like the scheme you have chosen. Well good luck with the GB, it's nice to have you along and I do look forward to following this build. Tony Mollica
Thanks everyone. To be honest, I think I'd like to build all of them No wait Rich, I'm not volunteering them for this GB. I do see a few of these in my future though, and yes, I'm going to join the Jug GB too. More on that over there. The reason I'm keen on the Thai F-5A is that I have a couple of Thai Chipmunks, and a Thai Spitfire XIX planned for sometime soon, and they'd make a nice little collection. Anyways, Here's some progress photos. Firstly is the Wolfpack P/E fret that I didnt photograph last time. Enough parts to do an F-5B or use some in a second F-5A. I've made a start on the cockpit. Firstly, the kit instrument panel had a step on it, that made it unsuitable for the P/E fascia. I simply removed it. Reminds me that my cutting pad is disgusting, I really should get a new one. Added the fascia. Added panels to the tub. The kit bang seat is two parts, split vertically. There's a sink mark where his backside would be, I'm guessing it would be uncomfy. I chose to skin it with very thin plastic card rather than fill the seam and sink mark, There's still a little seam clean up required. ...then added the harnesses That's as far as I've got for day one. More progress soon I hope. Cheers Tony

Tony Mollica
I've fixed the issue with photos not showing in the original post, and finally made a little progress on this. It's been slow as I took a holiday to Bali, then I'm trying to finish off a Hawker Hunter that is ahead of this in the queue. I would rate this kit as a 'shake and bake', but it's got a nice level of detail and is good enough. You can see some filler on the 2nd photo. Next job is to paint the cockpit detail, and close it all up. I still can't decide whether to go down the RoKAF or RTAF route. trickyrich
looks like she is coming along nicely.
Tony Mollica
I've got the cockpit together and the fuselage closed up. The cockpit is nice with the photoetched set. The fuselage is modular to allow more versions, and none of the seams are particularly easy, with all requiring filling despite effort to get a better fit. I'll have to reinstate a significant amount of panel detail. One thing of note is how fine the recessed detail is, I'll be mindful not to be too heavy with primer. trickyrich
you're making good progress I see, it should be all down hill from here.
Tony Mollica
Thanks Rich. Here's the next update, construction is almost completed. I've just got to refine the seams on all the stores, wash and mount everything ready for painting. I'm not sure of the lineage of this kit,but the fit of parts is a little like a short run kit, every join needs some refinement. Nothing really bad, but the work is there. I'm not complaining though, just stating what I think of it. I've built far far worse, and this kit has a nice level of detail. Tony Mollica
I've finally finished this build. I had a bout of serious ill health mid way through and didn't build for quite a while. Once I got back to it, I really just wanted to complete it and move on. The decals are from the kit, the colours are as recommended by the instructions. In the end I'd say it's a pretty tough build and I'd like to try an Esci F-5A before I turn to this kit again. Cheers Tony
trickyrich
It's great to see you managed to finish her Tony, She does look different in RoKAF colours. Sorry to hear you have been sick, hopefully you're on the mend, modelling is always a good way to get better and make you feel better. I'm glad you kept at it and posted on this thread, the Wolfpack models are a bit of a handful, mine was a real pain in places. Well It was great you could join us and I hope the build wasn't too stressful.

Ngr172
Just a heads up, I have this kit and the ESCI kit and they are the same molding. The ESCI molding is sharper and seems to have better fit.
