wombat
So....rescued some kits from 20+ years in my mum's attic. Which at this time of year anyway, is very cold. Some of the boxes feel a little damp and on inspection, a few of the decals have slightly stuck where instruction sheets were in contact with them, leaving fragments of paper attached. now...will this layer of paper float off when the decals are soaked or are they useless? And should I be pulling all the decals out of the boxes in my attic stash...? Any wisdom much appreciated.
sinnerboy
I had that once where paper was stuck to the decs & yes it did come off ok when immersed in water, but I may have been just lucky ,who knows. And yes, get your decals out of your loft, into zip-lock bags and into a nice room temperature wardrobe...ASAP! ( I do the same with the instruction sheets as well, but then I am a bit of a knob )
wombat
Thanks, thought as much about storage. But some hope for the slightly stuck decals at least. I ordered a load of sealable baggies from ebay and now fear a knock on the door from the drug squad...

DAG058
If I was you I would just splash out and buy some aftermarket ones if they are available. They are generally better quality than older decals and why run the risk of ruining a build for £5-£10.

bentwaters81tfw
I have a large concertina type box file in cardboard. It's indexed, so it's easy to keep track. It stays in what is about to be my man cave.
theplasticsurgeon
At 20+ years in the attic - they may not detach from the backing by now. Can you test a few and let us know. If they are useable, then keep them in a warm area of your home - as others have suggested.

Paul Parkes682Decals www.parkes682decals.com I do the same after finding decals in one of my lofted kits stuck to the instructions, I put a sticker on the box with the location of the decals on it as I have several decal folders, not quite 28 though. It stays in what is about to be my man cave. I've now invested in the same. Won't be testing the decals till the kits are built! Though I suspect it's largely pot luck and dependent on the quality of the original decal. A few off cuts from the same stash that I recently used worked fine, better than some recent buys I could think of.
