Kinetic BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1 Question - Wing Sets

I'm being troubled with the selection of the correct wingset for the new Kinetic BAe Sea Harrier FRS.1 and have been unable to glean anything from this website or others, in spite of extensive coverage of the kit. I fully understand that for the FRS.1, I should use the wing set on Sprue 'I' (I1-3) which includes the additional vortex generators missing from the wing set included in the 'original' F/A-2 kit (Sprue B) but I have also noticed that the leading edge of the latter wing set does not include the 'dog tooth' found on the Sprue I wing set. Is this another inaccuracy in the original kit or was the mainplane on the original aircraft so modified between the FRS.1 and F/A-2 variants to produce the 'smoother' leading edge found on Sprue B ?. It would be good to know before I embark on my F/A-2 build. IIRC the wings on the FRS.1 and F/A-2 were identical but I stand to be corrected as well !.

Yes both were upgraded on the FA2 so use the wings provided in the kit

Follow the kit instructions......trust them, they're right!!

First generation Harrier wings - Mainplanes - were identical ..APART from the FA2. (So that found on a GR1 would be identical to a T4, AV8A AND Sea Harrier FRS1.)The FA2 wing had a small flush triangular fairing in place of the dog-tooth, a vortex generator on each side removed and had an additional wing fence. Kinetic have correctly portrayed both wings, in both kits....

Bill,

Many thanks for the clarification. I would have been disappointed if Kinetic had got their kit instructions/parts wrong for these two kits, given the amount of cooperation that has gone on between them and members of the Harrier SIG here in the UK (other manufacturers take note !), so I'm not surprised to hear that all is in order. Like the saying goes "you learn something new everyday".

Thanks again

Mark

Hi everyone,

The wings may be ok but the rocket pods are NOT. Sorry folks, but the CADs I saw didn't have the rockets in the process of being fired as they are depicted on the sprues! Someone in Hong Kong thinks that UK rocket pods are like Russian ones! So, it's out with the scalpel and Dremel, or other drill of choice. :(

Cheers,

Nick
