gruffy
Licensing is a huge thing in the model industry these days, and not just cars. Notice that Revell don't have HMS Victory in their catalogue any more, but they do have a 'British Sailing Warship' instead. All those products by many manufacturers that have a little Boeing logo on the side of the box, and so on, or the number of items that feature or ® after the name. I think that the choice of which cars to produce is hugely influenced by those issues. With regard to the models we do get, probably the best selling car model I ever had on the shelf was the Airfix Escort Mk.1 starter set, and I was very disappointed when it was discontinued. The Triumph Herald in the same range is quite popular, however, while Minis and Volkswagens always sell well. And if I had £1 for every time I've been asked for a Morris Minor, I could probably afford to have one tooled and released. Generally, it is the ordinary that is more popular than the fantasy. Supercars and American muscle cars are required shelf fillers, Formula One is nowhere as popular as it used to be, but a lot of people would simply like to make a model of the car their Dad had when they were a kid. I don't include myself in that, but then my Dad had an Austin Allegro in that yucky khaki colour, so that is probably a bridge too far. I'd love a Morris minor! Dad taught me to drive in a souped up one when I was 13 ( an abandoned airfield on Dartmoor) !
Andre B
Concerning Formula One cars I prefer those cars from the 70's and early 80's. and in the 1/20 scale of course. Some eastern kitmaker probably noticed that the older (and much better looking) cars still make good interest. Why else bother doing the Lotus 79 after that many years? I think many of us would still build thorse cars driven by Niki Lauda and James Hunt... Edited February 21, 2016 by Andre B
modelldoc
It's a big problem with the product / brand name licence. So this year all Ferrari kit out of the programme and in the catalogue on pages 60 / 61 (was the place for Ferrari) now 14 last minutes items (some of them are nicly). So when you think about new ideas, the problem is not the modelmaker, the problem is the owner of the origin. modelldoc

I don't think F1 cars have looked good since 1982 which is when the ground effect cars were withdrawn. The 1983 cars were ok as they still had the same tyre shape but in 1984 it all went downhill for me. The paint schemes became crappier and crappier and the same with the body and tyre shapes. Navy Bird
I like the F1 cars with the engines in the front...does that make me old? Cheers, Bill
Graham Boak
I was going to say that they've gone downhill since Chris Amon left Ferrari, but I think I've been trumped. Certainly sportscars (prototypes or whatever you want to call them) haven't looked so good since the P4.
Homerlovesbeer
Am I the only one who finds all the aero on the new F1 cars pretty fascinating? I'd love to build a current gen F1 car. Must be the pilot in me

MetroRacing
Mines a Volvo 480. I call her Vera lol With regards to F1. I too don't like the aesetics of the modern cars and much prefer the looks of the 70's and 80's cars. However I've never been an avid follower as Rallying has always had that pull factor for me lol. But even that has become boring in recent years and my viewing has waned. Ashley

Tripehound
I don't include myself in that, but then my Dad had an Austin Allegro in that yucky khaki colour, so that is probably a bridge too far. I believe that colour was called 'Harvest Gold' by British Leyland. My first car (a Morris Marina!) was that colour, although my mates referred to it as 'baby's first attempt yellow'. fightersweep
Ah! The Austin Maxi! My Dad had one too...in the other colour BL loved then...orange! Was the first car I drove after passing my test. My parents went away that weekend and he said I could borrow it just for work....I must have put a couple of hundred miles on it that weekend! Nice roomy car...terrible gearbox! If only Airfix would re-release theirs! Best regards; Steve
F4u
I'd definitely have a Moggy Traveller if I could get one. My first car and took my test in 25yrs ago great car and it had a starting handle as well as a key to start it , easy to work on cheap to run and reliable, wish I still had it !!! Would'nt mind a model of it. Guy Edited February 24, 2016 by F4u

There just doesn't seem to be many around at all...did they not sell well first time around? Regards; Steve
speedbird
Dad had an old marina in that horrible hearing aid beige colour.
