1/32 - Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet & EA-18G Growler by Revell - F/A-18E & F released

Looks like all the parts are present to do a F/A-18E, F and G. I wonder if they'll all be in the same release?

Business sense would say no, but either way it looks like we'll be treated to some fantastic Hornets over the next couple of years.

Can't wait - and I bet they'll sell like hot cakes as they'll no doubt be considerably cheaper than the Trumpeter offering.

Bravo Revell!

Ok I'm in , I gave up on the Trumpter  super bug a year or so ago , but this one looks a LOT more enticing , and a lot lower price , I'm willing to bet - yup I'm in !

F/A-18F & EA-18G Growler variants are also in the pipe line.

Revell/Hobbico had test shots of Revell AG's upcoming 1/32 F/A-18E Super Hornet on display and if you look carefully, you'll also see parts for the F/A-18F and EA-18G there as well which provides another glimpse into the future.

Has there been any comment on the forums about the detail on the sprues/parts?...be interesting to know how far Revell have gone on the fine detail....looks great on the sprues and all version will be covered(maybe not on a single release though)...

great news - and I now need to eat-my-hat having previously (unfairly) suggested that is was just a re-release of the Trumpy kit. Looks good, just need some more excellent decals to match some of the great schemes offered in 1/48..........perhaps even a VFA-87 modex 302 SU-22 killer? (one of the phots looks like Mr Revell onboard the USS BUSH with a VFA-31 pilot, so might be a possibility???)

AIM-9Xs on the sprues looks good, the JDAMs look like the standard Revell USAF versions (anyone comment?) and not seen is the AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR  targeting pod (which Trumpy never supplied either)

One for me as THE delayed Christmas pressie - build to follow on here!

further to the above, here is the Youtube link to the ToyFair - F/A-18E comes in @ 2:27

AIM-9L/M shown on port wingtip, but a not unreasonable -9X on the starboard, JDAM (2000lb) looks like a  BLU-109/B rather than the  GBU31 built around the Mk 84 bomb (i.e. I "think" this is a USAF version not used by the USN????), however the GBU 38 (500lb JDAM) and the GBU-12 (LGB) look pretty good to me.

Oh, and finally an accurate -228 targeting pod :D

Cockpit canopy lacks detail, but seat looks ok. Nozzles look poor and the various vents/mesh screens found on the airframe seem to be decals (but the mesh is so fine on the real thing, decals might just work in 1/32?). For the price being quoted by several sources, to get this beast in 1/32 at that price is going to have no complaint from me. Most of my observations (entirely based on a Youtube video!!) are easily corrected with aftermarket or a bit of scratch work.

The ONLY question I cannot answer is the shape issue. I have my 80% finished trumpeter Rhino next to me as I watch the video and worry that the spine shape on this Revell offering has the same "narrowing" issue that their 1/48 kits have, of course, because the model on show has a paint scheme covering the spine, it is, perhaps, not so obvious BUT what the video doesn't show is a nose side on profile to confirm/deny whether Revell have repeated the shape issue there that they got so wrong on their 1/48 kits.

STOP PRESS - There was something not right that I couldn't figure out and took 10 replays to finally get. The Front canopy is very "flat" (again, comparing to the Trumpy kit in hand and Jake Melampy's book) - again, something they got wrong on their 1/48 kits.

summary: perhaps a little harsh from me (especially based on just watching Youtube), but I think the Rumourmonger allows us to be critical - if only to prompt discussion.

Would I buy one? the answer was a resounding "yes"....until I saw that front canopy...... I'm probably going to hold fire until I can see/read some better, more accurate reviews (by experts! rather than me!!!)

Who builds these example kits for Revell?  There is always something that seems off about them.  From a technical standpoint they seem fine, but the lack a certain depth and have a more toyish quality that I can't quite put my finger on.

I think the problem you are seeing is not that the windshield is too low, but the coaming over the instrument panel is too high. In the image below, the rise of the coming seems to follow the line of the nose contour. On the kit picture above it seems to bend up. Maybe this was a concession to get the instrument panel the right size.

Agree - you seem to have made a good call there. Certainly from the photo you have posted (almost the same angle as the image screenshot) the canopy does actually look right, but the coaming (instrument panel) is too high.......(or too narrow??)

regardless, my Trumpy "E" is 98% complete (should be posting in "ready for inspection" this weekend :)

.....and I have scaled up the new Furball AirWing 8 VFA-87 SU-22 killer decals from 1/48 to 1/32 to dress this Revell bird in, when she gets released

I note also that the kit has the front nose gear door installed on the wrong side.

I saw this abomination live at the Nuremburg fair and I'll definitely pass on this one. It has so eclatant shape issues in so prominent places like for instance a far far far too flat and broad spine and too narrow and squared off engine trunks at the back end that leave a quite huge gap not visible on the original, that I decided that it would not be worth the money. The gear is also flawed. The biggest problem is for me that a correction particularly of the spine and the engine trunks would be extremely work intensive in my eyes at least, if at all possible?!

Thesy did report that Revell pusshed the release date back due to corrections but as long as I don't see a significant change of what I saw at the Nuremburg fair that thing is a definitive no-go for me.

Wonderland now reporting release date of 22nd Nov 2018 - with a countdown clock of 61 days (from today).......first post on this thread had Revell announcing a Nov 2016 date. Whilst I do not claim to be an expert at the internet, I can find nothing else on the internet, certainly nothing from Revell, so we'll see. As a precaution I've bought the Speed Hunter Graphics sheet which does have the Su22 Killer scheme on it in 1/32.

Looking good. It'll be especially nice in Blue Angels livery, which by all accounts is not too far away either.

Pity there isn't and could no longer be a black bunny Hornet. Some things were better in the 1970s, but modern kits have come a very long way since then. £70, deinflated for forty years ago was about £13, with which you could buy around six rounds of Courage's Best Bitter for six people - yes, honest! Don't think I could buy 36 pints for less than £129 now, so the Hornet will be good VFM based on the beerometer.

Just got to that stage in life where I need to explain to my teenage children the value of money and other such responsibilities. After a fruitless attempt I now realise what I was doing wrong, clearly the Oxford Dictionary explanation of "Beerometer is just what I needed. So simple and yet so obvious...........perhaps the term will work with my wife when she discovers what I just paid to Hannants online????
