I recieved a surprise Christmas present from a modelling friend; an all resin 1/72 Spitfire PR.XI kit by Attack Squadron. It is a kit that I knew nothing about, nor have read anything about it in magazines or on the net. But oh what a pleasant surprise! Excellent casting, highly detaled cockpit, perfectly clear vacformed canopy (unfortunately only one) very good PE for the smallest deails, and six decal options; four American, one RAF and one Danish AF. Parts breakdown is a bit unconventional, but after having done some dry-fitting the fit seems to be near perfect. The only con I've found so far is the instructions which, although nicely drawn, seem a bit disorganised and have no colour callouts whatsoever for the interior. The latter is no problem for me since I have plenty of references to go by. Very much looking forward to build this kit.

I've seen it mentioned here before, as well as finding it at the product's dedicated webpage. From your description, looks to be the premium kit, so mucho $$.

Haven't seen one built up yet, so do look forward to your end result.

regards,

Jack

Whack up some pics when you've done it Sten; I'd like to see how it looks. Justin

Agree with Justin,I've a soft spot for Merlin PR's(probably after seeing Pete T. displaying the lovely PL965).

I agree it's one of the tastiest-looking Spitfires flying right now - though I do wish it had the correct PR windscreen and not the fighter type. I think I saw somewhere that the restoration of PL983 is making progress, with correct windscreen installed. Justin

I'd not heard of the restoration of PL983 before.

It is amazing that PL965 has its original engine. On the subject of the windscreen, I heard that the PR type was not in favour with the safety regulators because of either distortion of the view (although I can't see the armoured one being better in this regard), or lack of protection from birds/foreign objects. I would think that it is possible, 70 years on ,to make an optically good, extremely tough version that has the same appearance and dimensions as the original.

I bought the Attack Squadron PR XI a few months ago, it does indeed look great in the box. I did hear of someone having one with warped wings. I wish I had to time build it...

And I wish they made Spit Mk.XI in plastic, not resin (cheaper it would be). I have to write to them...they from my homeland.
