1.48 Hawker Typhoon MkIb Italeri

Recommended Posts

This kit by Italeri is sublime. After seeing many great builds of the Airfix 1;24th scale I wanted to add a 48th version to my collection. The detail is pretty good, but I wanted to add that littler bit more. Eduard provided a superb PE set for the main grille, cockpit and rockets which in my opinion puts this kit as one of the best on the market.

I used Tamiya primer with a dark pre-shade of the panel lines. I hen finished the scheme using Vallejo air, using a post shading technique and opted to paint the D-Day stripes rather than using the decals provided.

The kit was then given a gloss coat before adding weathering and a panel wash.

The aircraft itself is from RAF Thorney Island, which is one of my local WWII airfields, so it has some meaning to my collection.

That is a beautiful looking tiffie, but in my opinion there's a but too much weathering, just enough (in my opinion) to apoil ever so slightly the look of the aircraft. Apart from that a wonderful model!

Brilliant build. I'm afraid I have to disagree with Raptormodller though, it's just as imagine they would look operating out of forward

airstrips in the summer of '44.

Ambitious project, but I have to agree with raptormodeller – the weathering is quite a bit over the top for my taste.

Also, no panel lines visible on the fuselage roundels make them look pasted on.

All the same, slick modelling – no denying that!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Thanks for the comments everyone. In relation to the weathering. I have not seen one photo of a clean Typhoon. In my opinion my build is quite conservative in this area. The Typhoons were certainly hard working and weathered hard. But like any modelling project, the eye is with the beholder and everyone's tastes differ...
