PlaStix Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) You could always leave that until the Vignette GB as your 47th entry Or are you wanting a bit more practice? .....I need all the practice I can get!! It will really depend on how much time I get before the end of this GB...........I've got a few other GBs happening (and on the horizon) and think I may be struggling for time. As you say it could be one for the Vignette GB! thats another fantastic build Stix, i realy cant believe how great you can paint your models with hair brush... that tool obviously does not like me at all! but your skill with brushes is fantastic and your models have somehow unique atmosphere, i can not explain it, it is probably combination of painting, weathering and photographing, but i believe i would recognize your models anytime Hi Wolwe. You are, as always, very kind. Thank you. Only just been able to catch up Stix - that looks brilliant! Can I ask what colour you painted the box (?) ion the deck behind the turret? Cheers, Simon Hi Simon and thank you too. The box I did initially in Revell's matt Anthracite before applying Revell's Rust. Once dry I added some lightened tones of the same colour followed by an Anthracite wash. Brilliant work Stix, how you do this with only a hairy stick has me baffled mate, looks super Hi Julian and thank you. I do this with only hairy sticks because I haven't got an airbrush! I spent a fair bit of time on the stowage for this kit over the weekend. I fixed the aerials in place which I made from stetched sprue. Then I used a combination of bits left over from other kits, some items from Tamiya's Jerry Can set and some thread which I had previously soaked in watered down PVA glue with some Revell's Anthracite added to tone down the colour of the actual thread. And this is the result: Same photo but in black and white: The bucket still needs some weathering adding. It was a fun little project on it's own! The bucket itself is from the Jerry Can set mentioned above but it actually comes with the handle molded flat around the outside of the rim. Once this had been filed off I first tied to make a handle from micro-strip plastic but to no avail. I resorted, eventually, to using fuse wire which seems to have done a reasonable job. I still need to add some dusty weathering in a variety of areas but it's not far off finished. I still intend to make a base for this kit but that is going to have to wait for a while until I've finished some builds in other GBs. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited February 22, 2016 by PlaStix 6
Badder Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Yet another superb model. Well done Stix. I don't know why, but mine always end up scruffy while yours look 'tidy' with nice weathering. The stowage is great btw. I think I will definitely have to put a Crusader on my list. Well, not this one, cos it's 1/48th... even though you make it look like 1/24th! Regards Badder Edited February 22, 2016 by Badder 1
Shermaniac Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I say, it's rather good What! 1

Sgt.Squarehead Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 S'true.....I only buy Italeri StuGs for the buckets. Stonking build Stix, you seem to have a knack for metallics, the sheen on the shovel is lovely......What are you using/doing? 2
Col. Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Stunning work Stix. Every time I see your updates more life has been bestowed upon this one. 1

Don't put your own work down - I'm always impressed by your weathering - your current projects look amazing! I always feel I stop too soon with the weathering but I'm always concerned I'll mess up what I've achieved at that point. I must admit that, so far, I enjoy 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35 AFV builds - they all have different aspects that make them interesting to make. I say, it's rather good What! Thank you - you are very kind! This build just gets better and better! Cliff Thank you Cliff - you are very kind as well. Excellent Mr. Stix, truly excellent. ALL tanks MUST have a bucket STIX.... Absolutely!! S'true.....I only buy Italeri StuGs for the buckets. Stonking build Stix, you seem to have a knack for metallics, the sheen on the shovel is lovely......What are you using/doing? Hi Sarge and thank you! The metalwork is usually given a thinned coat of Revell's Anthracite first and, when that's dry, I dry-brush everything very lightly with with Humbrol's Gunmetal - usually trying to go in the direction of wear on tools such as the shovel (or spade). Finally I try and catch any areas that would be more worn with some dry-brushed Revell Aluminium. Stunning work Stix. Every time I see your updates more life has been bestowed upon this one. Thank you Col, that's very kind of you to say. ......continued in the post below: Edited February 23, 2016 by PlaStix 2
PlaStix Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Now here's an idea... How about Vignette group build that HAS to feature a bucket? I'm running out of words! Outstanding Thank you Nigel - you are way too kind! Thank you to everyone for your comments. This has been a thoroughly enjoyable build and I will definitely be having a go at some more Tamiya 1/48 AFVs in future. Kind regards, Stix I've also run out of likes again at the moment so I will add some more later. 1
Gremlin56 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Sheer magic, Master of the hairy stick :worthy:
PlaStix Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Sheer magic, Master of the hairy stick :worthy: Thank you Julian you are very kind. I've only done a little bit of additional detail weathering and tidying up generally but the light was quite nice on Sunday afternoon so I took a few more photos against one of the backgrounds I've got. As before it isn't on the base (which I'm hoping I'll find time to make before the end of this GB!) but only on a chipboard table I used long ago for one of my model railways. ......and some of the same pics in B&W: Next weekend I'm going to get all the bits and pieces, I want to use for the base, together and hopefully make a start. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited February 29, 2016 by PlaStix 13
PlaStix Posted March 5, 2016 Author Posted March 5, 2016 Nice build Stix.Thank you Ozzy.I'm hoping I get some time to work on the base for this at some point this weekend...........problem is I have four other kits on the go at the moment! - one 1/48 P-47D, two 1/72 Hurricanes and one 1/72 Spitfire - all in GBs........ Having a great time! Kind regards, Stix 1

PlaStix Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 Sounds like a good start to the year, I'm still waiting for some back orders to turn up. It certainly is - and I hope your orders turn up soon! She looks beautiful, and very detailed. Very nice work stix Rob Thank you Rob. I was hoping to do something on the base for this project but I ended up doing more work on my P-47D, Hurricanes and Spitfire this weekend. It may be a while before I get back to this as the P-47 STGB ends in about a month so I may need to concentrate on that for a bit...........too many GBs!! Kind regards, Stix 1
PlaStix Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Crickey Stix, very nice job Thank you Shermaniac - you are very kind. I may not get time to do much work on the base for this project this weekend but I really would like to get it sorted - if I get chance!
