Fabulous work Stix!

Cliff

Hi Cliff and thank you too!

Beautiful Stix, especially against the backdrop, Where do you find them?

Sean

Hi Sean and thank you. I've found them by hunting through copyright free images online. I must admit I can't remember where I got them from now and it usually takes a while to find something suitable. I usually put in a search term like North African desert landscape (or panorama) and only look for high resolution images. Sometimes I find something that's almost right and then go to the webpage and hunt though the collections there. There are some amazing photographers out there. I usually then edit the photos to make them slightly blurred and sometimes lighter - this makes them look more distant. I print them off on A4 paper with the image spread across 2 pages which I then laminate in matt laminating pouches. I try and pick a suitable place for the joint and cut them carefully and then join them together with tape. When I'm looking for suitable images I try to find ones which are taken at person height rather than from above. I also try to find ones which have a base line which I can match up a base to. HTH.

Nice.....The second desert backdrop kind of shows why they chose that camo scheme doesn't it. :coolio:

Thank you Sarge and yes it does. I did wonder when I first saw the camo but after looking at desert photos you can see what they were thinking.

Superb Stix

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve and thank you.

When I was going through my research photos on Sunday evening I suddenly realised that one of my photos of my kit, from that afternoon, was similar to one of the photos I found of a real Crusader. The angle isn't quite the same and the lighting is from the wrong direction but I thought it was a reasonable match despite not being intentional. So I have edited my photo to make it black and white and slightly lighter and included both photos below. The original photo is from Wikipedia and was taken by Sgt. Lambert of No.1 Army Film & Photographic Unit and shows a British Army Crusader Mk III tank in North Africa in 1943. Wikipedia says the image is in the public domain but if there are any issues with me including it here then I can remove it. The original image can be found on this page.

I think by the time I've finished the weathering and added other bits and pieces, including the aerials, it'll be a reasonable match.

Kind regards,

Stix

Sorry, did you say that YOUR cammo pattern is coincidentally exactly the same as that of the tank in the photo? :banghead:

Badder. :bobby:

Cheers Sarge!

Well done Stix, looks the part to me, cracking build so far.

All the best Chris

Thank you Chris, most kind!

 . Now that would be something wouldn't it!!! I manage to paint the camo exactly the same as the one in the photo without looking!!!

No, sorry, I meant the photo I took was at a similar angle to the research photo but I hadn't taken the photo intentionally from that same angle - it was just a coincidence. The photo of the original, plus several others (and the instructions) are what I used to get the pattern for the camo! I need to explain myself more clearly in future!

Awesome build of a cracking kit

Thank you Yeoman1942, that's very kind of you to say. And you are quite right - it is a great little kit.

Cheers mate, nice tip regards the blur effect, time to start trawling the net,

Sean

No problem Sean and good luck!

Kind regards,

Stix

That is looking so good stix, very nice work. Really looking forward to how you finish this.

Rob

Hi Rob. Thank you for your kind comments.

In amongst spending a lot of time fiddling around on my P-47 build adding lots of wires (that will hardly be seen again) I managed to get some more done on the Crusader. I added the open hatch on the turret plus the tools and (I assume) tool box:

.....one with better light to show the tools:

And then the latter part of my sessions on this included painting up a suitable figure;

I also started get some stowage items painted but nothing worth a photograph.

More next weekend I hope.

Kind regards,

Stix

So impressive :clap2:

You can't have much more to do can you Stix?

Hi Nigel, you are very kind. No not a lot to do. I've already stretched some sprue so I can make up the aerials, I've started painting some stowage items plus I still need to add a touch more weathering in some areas. Ideally I want to make a bit of a base with a bit of sand and stuff but that may have to wait while I get my P-47 build progressed a bit further and I start my Hurricane GB builds!

Classy.....Love the polished finish to the track guide teeth, spot-on!

Thank you Sarge.

Beautiful build and well presented.

Thank you too Bernd.

This weekend I'm hoping I will be able to get the actual Crusader finished with it's stowage and some more weathering and then I will, at some point in the near future, have a go at making a base.

Kind regards,

Stix

You could always leave that until the Vignette GB as your 47th entry :P Or are you wanting a bit more practice?

thats another fantastic build Stix, i realy cant believe how great you can paint your models with hair brush... that tool obviously does not like me at all! ;) but your skill with brushes is fantastic and your models have somehow unique atmosphere, i can not explain it, it is probably combination of painting, weathering and photographing, but i believe i would recognize your models anytime :)
