eng

Recommended Posts

Received my notification from Hannants, so I can expect it early Jan.

Looking froward to it and the Har3 this spring.

Hope the HC4 has the folding rotors as shown on the HAR3 on Airfix's website.

Bought mine Christmas Eve and although I have not really had a good look at it, a perusal of the instruction sheet gives an option to fold the blades and tailboom.

Got mine from big H last Thursday started it yesterday going together well & yes it has folding blades armoured seats or standard. Sadly no towelrail aerials on nose sides satnav boxes on tail rotor drive housing round aerial on boom sides. Trooping seats donot have the cut out at the top. Rest is lovely like the clear doors &roof blank off cover.Regards Len

Looks like a good kit, however I was promised buy good BM'er two kits niethe have arrived and no fault of his. However my Sister-in-law packed the one kit and then unpacked it but didn't repack but she didn't!!! The second kit which my bros should have brough a couple of weeks later didn't arrive in time for him to bring. So, here I am at the bottom fo Africa with no prospect of getting to see the kit in the near future and champing at the bit...

Colin a Junglie to boot

Hi gents,

I am trying to sort out all things about the new Airfix Sea King and how to make it 100% correct as it looked in Gulf war. So far, I was able to make two pages:

what do you need to make it right - http://www.dstorm.eu/pages/en/gb/seaking_build.html

and table with config for each airframes - http://www.dstorm.eu/pages/en/gb/seaking_config.html

I would like to ask you, if you can help me correctly identify all the antennas and "lumps and bumps" and help me to cover all details.

Thanks in advance and best regards.

It's arrived. Box is smaller than I expected (for some reason I thought it would be bigger).

It's a tight fit. Once out of the plastic bag I suspect the sprues won't go back in without a fight.

Its here and boy was it worth the wait. I will admit I have only seen the box and contents but already I can see me spending a mega load of money on these (do airfix supply in bulk) a couple of things that I like. seems a small thing but the winch has the cable seperate and he little light over the door. the tail rotor blades look to be to scale and the cockpit seats....... I bought up loads of modelart decals with the MK4 on them just the Xtradecal set to go.

2015 out with a bang thank you Airfix

Of course this all could be subject to change when I try to put it togeather

Ps sorry Colin for being so excited when you cant get yours in SA yet.

Got mine today, looks nice. Couple of bits broken of the sprue as typical Airfix, small holes to fill where it has come away from the piece. Had a look at images, and doesn't seem to be any regularity, but can any expert confirm whether the white/green artic cammo is fairly random, or is there a pattern?

Cheers

Does anyone have any info on the FLIR-equipped HC4s?

The HC4 Plus seems to be the version of the HC4 fitted with the Carson main blades as well as a five-blade composite tail rotor for Afghani Ops. It doesn't look like the FLIR unit was part of the "Plus" upgrade package.

Also, does anyone have any photos of the FLIR screen/station inside the aircraft? It appears from following the wiring from the FLIR ball back into the cabin that the FLIR station is midway back in the cabin, not up front on the pilot's instrument panel. A FLIR HC4 would make for an interesting and hopefully not too challenging scratch-built conversion of the new Airfix kit.

interior Photo's are rare as I think it's a sensitive area!

Whirlybirds do a set of carson blades, but for the Revell kit, so will need modifying the attachment. They also do a FLIR set for a SAR MK5 seaking which can be used!

Thanks, Dave.

Do you know what type of mission the FLIR-birds were employed on (night-ops, presumably)?

Was it used on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq or elsewhere?

The few photos I've seen of FLIR-equipped HC4s have been of aircraft operating in the UK. Any photos of machines on ops in A/stan-Iraq seem not to be fitted with the FLIR. Thanks as well for the heads-up on the Whirlybirds FLIR unit for the RN Mk5 SAR bird.

There is also one photo on the web of a mid-1980's HC4 with "RESCUE" titles in white on it. Interesting. Does anyone have any info on this rescue HC4. Thanks.

Thanks, Grizzly. I noticed after I posted that this option is on the Xtradecal sheet.

Does anyone have any info on why an HC4 was employed in the rescue role? Was it to provide cover until the Mk5s of 771 NAS came on-line? An HC4 with an interior kitted out for the SAR role would be different.

BM.
