Here are the decals. I buy a lot of 1/72 decals and then scan them in a print on decal paper with the ink jet.

Sadly they are mostly for F8 and nightfighters so I might be able to cobble something together. I might have the Frog sheet in the loft, I wouldn't mind doing the red strip from tthe Revell F4 but I don't have that sheet.

I found this old Frog sheet in the loft.

I'll scan this later and then pop it into word, resize and print it on inkjet decal paper on clear and white.

Meanwhile as the model will be in flying pose I have been carrying out aircrew selection.

On the right is the OZmods RAF seated pilot - Bill Waterton, Chief test pilot at Glosters, I assume would have flown this aircraft before squadron service. On the left is the Aeroclub seated pilot. In this case I will call him Maurice Dale. I worked with Maurice who served in the war on Spitfires ad ended his career on low level Swifts. He told us the story of his one and only 'kill' - a Mustang! In his defence it was cloudy and it does have square cut tailplanes. I dont know if Maurice ever flew an F4 but he was in the RAF at the time.

I will be using Maurice minus bits of his anatomy as the cockpit is very shallow and not very wide.

Cheers

John, the space in the meteor is much less than in your Lightning, which I like very much by the way, my guy will look more like the head and shoulders on those very early kits.

Last evening I took the parts off the sprues. The gates are a little thick and the plastic rather hard so I had to be a little cautious. The wing didn't fit too well with the fuselage.

P1020907.jpg

So little Sebastion (Vettle Fettle!) was required.

P1020908.jpg

So I cut off the attchments and sanded down the front edge of the wing and the 'saddle' of the fuselage.

It was then out with the acrylic filler.

P1020910.jpg

A little of the filler was placed on the top of the wing, the two parts forced together and the excess filler wiped off with a wet cotton bud.

The end result is a model now ready for primer.

This evening I will gloss varnish the home made transfers and think about how to prevent the see through air intakes.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys. Its difficult to get time at the moment, we are just finishing the new kitchen and dining room in time for Christmas. However I wanted to solve the see through engines on the meteor. Looking round my toolbox I came across my old punch and die set. Fortunately one of the punches fitted exactly. Out came some 20 thou plasticard and bish bash bosh........

The discs fitted perfectly, all it needed was a touch of liquid glue and voila!

Next task, out with the paints.

  • 3 weeks later...

Michael, Thanks for the reminder, its been a busy family Christmas and New Year.

OK so here we go again,

After a coat of primer its on with the Halfords aluminium.

P1020920.jpg

And the first of the home made decals.

The roundels are from Shed models who specialise in 1/200 scale and do very nice small roundels and fin flashes.

P1020921.jpg

The squadron markings are the scaled down Frog sheet.

To tone down the bright finish and bring out the fine details a wipe over with burnt umber was added after a coat of Kleer.

and at last here she is in all her glory.......

Thanks to Max for the model, to Mish for being a great Group Build Co-ordinator and to the leaders of the GB.
