mcdonnell
Tall too, when stood underneath the tail plane! I like older kits like these, as long as the shape is good I'm good They can usually turn out great with a little work as your are perfectly showing! You're too kind,David! As far as shape accuracy is concerned, she sure looks like a Voodoo Two-Seater to me.For the real experts out there I reckon this would be a fine starting point for a super-detailed project. That is beyond my skill level but I'll try and avoid getting the decals back to front!?! All the very best,Paul.
ForestFan
Got to say this is looking nice. It's a kit that has defeated me in the past-I remember awful fit between fuselage and wings, so bravo to you! What markings are you doing?

What markings are you doing?Hello,Forest Fan - Good to hear from you and thank you for your kind reply and interest.I'm sorry you had issues with your attempt at this kit.Firstly,I filled the fuselage/wing joints with 'PerfectPutty'.This was superb because I could wipe any excess away with a damp cloth and save the raised detail without the need for a sanding process.Secondly, the choice of scheme. The kit options were the RCAF Scheme, which is very elegant with full length striping, etc. The other option was the 'Texas Air National Guard' Scheme and this is the one I'm going for.I love the clean finish and colourful markings that these units adorned their aircraft in.In continuation of this theme,I look forward to adding further types to the fleet. The 'Phantom' will certainly be my next one. You're an excellent modeller,Forest Fan.The problems you had with this kit prove it can happen to the best of us.Happy Fettling!! mcdonnell
Hello,Friends - I've had a play with the NMF Rear Section. The raised detail on the pipes was unavoidably lost during sanding process so I've tried to replicate the detail by painting different shades to give the effect of different panels. No Alclad here (I know-can't you tell!? ) Humbrol Aluminium Metalcote tinted with a touch of colour. Not one for the purists but I'm reasonably content that it's achieved the effect I hoped for.Two coats of Klear to really boost the shine will leave her ready for decalling. All the very best,Paul. mcdonnell
Ummm nice Hello,John - Many thanks to you too.The Metalcote shades were brush painted and the masking tape has given a slight 'edge' which has helped to restore the third dimension a touch.Decals and Transparencies beckon!! I'll have to steal that trick for when I do mine Hello,Jessica - Thank you for your very kind reply.I'm pleased you think it looks okay.If you add a gloss enamel colour to tint the Metalcote this will give a smoother finish to start with. These shades were mixed in a milk bottle cap and brush applied.Nothing hi- tech but the sky's the limit with shade potential.I seal over this finish with brush applied 'Klear' which acts as a perfect barrier against any further finishing process.I hope you do give this idea a try and wish you every success with it. F4u
Hi Paul, Those exhaust cans have come out really nice, I use metalcote and funny enough use different colours to get the desired effect and find it quite effective. The aircraft is a bit of a beast I didn't realise just how much until I saw one in the flesh ! Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next instalment Guy

Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next instalment Guy lHello,Guy - Thank you ever so much.I haven't seen a Voodoo in real life as yet but certainly respect its size and I guess it must have a very strong airframe.Earlier this evening I gave her two coats of Kleat so the next job is the decalling.During this stage I'll also give some attention to the transparencies. The air brakes will be fitted before the final finishing coat of varnish. All the very best,Paul. mcdonnell
Hello,Friends - It's now time for Voodoo to get her identity and decalling has commenced. The national and unit main markings are in place. The decals (Caracal) needed several applications of Microsol to settle over the raised details but they have done so satisfactorily. There are plenty of stencil and smaller badge markings, etc. to add.All the very best,Paul. Mario
Hi Paul! Very good work on that Voodoo. Has always been one of my favourite aircraft. Have the 1/72 Revell kit with the very same markings option. Although had the older release in the stash, bought a new kit because of the Texas Air National Guard/William Tell decal sheet. Nice choice. Have a nice Sunday Mario
mcdonnell
Hello,Jaime and Mario - Thank you both very much for your kind replies. The photos I posted last night were poor even by my standards.I've just completed another decalling session which now leaves the Airframe Stencilling, etc. The wingtip formation lights will be painted as these items have been omitted by both Caracal and the original sheet. No problem whatsoever as the the detail for these is in the kit and will be done alongside the final 'bits and pieces' painted items. All the very best to you both,Paul. Edited April 24, 2016 by mcdonnell
ForestFan
That's looking great! I've just started the Revell 1/72 version and plan to use the Texas ANG decals too. Quick question: how did you make the air intake covers? Cheers
BushBrit66
This is really cracking! I am known as something of an evangelical Monogram fan in my IPMS branch and this build proves the point. I often giggle when a "new" kit comes out and you read a review along the lines of. "finally I can bin my Monogram POS as it has raised lines"!! Usually an inferior copy of the MG. I always giggle as surely its about the model as opposed to the kit and what you achieve with it? The beauty of MG is the detail, accuracy and price. Look no further than the voodoo Also they have a "house style" they rely coveys that the master modeller who creates the tooling really knows the subject. This continues to this day with the Revell (but really Monogram) Ventura, Helldiver He111 F84 E & G etc. If this were a "modern" kit it would cost upwards of £60/$80. I got my copy of the 101 for £12! Looking forward to this one being finished Sean

Quick question: how did you make the air intake covers? Cheers Hello,Bryn - Thank you very much for your very kind reply. The method for the intake covers is a breeze. It must be if I can do it! First of all,cut a piece of masking tape and fit over the intake.Draw around the edge of the intake with a pencil. This gives you a template.Place this on a piece of thin plasticard and then cut around the pencil line. This will give you a good shape which may just need a little sand to get the fit you want. Then, you can either remove the tape,or as I do,leave in place and paint accordingly.I use decorator's masking tape for this as it has a pleasing very slight texture which looks good when painted. To fit in place,I seat the intake and then tack it in place with a spot of superglue.I then seal around the edge with PVA If need be and touch in with the intake colour.I love doing these items and have fitted them to my Phantom and Hunter builds. It's just a little extra detail and cheap to make.Give it a try and good luck.
