Eduard PE exterior+interior and mask set announced for this, should be available April Fool's day (release date as a homage to those who bought this kit for 110 grand)!

..... ok, the release date is just a coincidence, but it's funny regardless. :P

Awesome! Thanks for info. Going get the PE and nose when they're released.

Couldn't decide on whether to wait for the KH release or not, but, well, KH version is still vaporware, had a $200 gift card burning a hole in my pocket, LHS had the HB kit for only $100, so I made the plunge. $100 isn't cheap, but you get a lot--didn't even know it came with metal gear parts.

Laser scanned the nose for the Hobby Boss Su-34, working through final tweaks to make sure our part not only corrects the kit, but matches the kit as well. Look forward to having updates renders shortly, and then hopefully off to print and casting!

I've seen photos of a build, but it's for a mag and I can't share. The person building it has corrected the nose quite easily and to me, it looks way better for very little work done. I won't be paying £100+ for one either, going to wait a bit..

Radleigh, Did the article you are referring to ever get published? I'm waiting to get my hands on it before I break out the sanding stick on my chunk of plastic.

Thanks

So, our long languishing Su-34 friends - here we are, almost to the finish line! Laser measurements completed on the kit, drawings meticulously checked against all angles we could find of the real thing, and we have a near-final render. Note that after evaluating the layout of the kit, we BELIEVE the best approach to be supplying only the forward section of the nose, as this is the only part with the issue. There is a panel line around the forward section of the radome in the kit, this will be the cut line. This brings an added bit of help in that the radome on the real Su-34 is pretty much smooth, so once surgery and installation is completed, the join can just be puttied over and smoothed in - much easier than trying to maintain a panel line or similar method. We can still produce the whole radome or even the whole forward section of the aircraft, however, we believe the forward section only is the best approach. Let us know your feedback as we are to the point where we will be printing and testing prototypes here very shortly. Perhaps about the only piece missing will be to get a pitot produced that will just plug in to the resin. MASTER are you out there?

I'm currently building the Trumpeter 1/72 scale version :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_su-34_trumpeter.html

The Trumpeter nose (left) compared to the more pointed Italeri kit....

I have sanded and scraped the Trumpeter nose to get a more pointed shape - and although not 100% correct, it looks much better.....

Note:- I did a little more careful sanding after this photo was taken to try for a sharper edge - it looks slightly better now.

So, I'd say go ahead and start your 1/48 HB kit and do the same - (if it is possible without going through the plastic).

Happy Flankering!
