If you hadn't mention your trouble with the serial numbers, I wouldn't have noticed! How about touching up that "0" with a very fine brush? I know someone mad enough to do that ... :coolio::D :D

They both look brilliant, anyway

Cheers guys,

Giemme, I will assume you are talking about me or you, on both counts I would say you are correct! 😊😊......now where is that brush....

John, I think you are right, we let ourselves off with very little!

Cheers

I was actually talking about myself, and the mess I did with one of the decals in my F-4J build last year :hanging::banghead::D :D

Right, I got some time in today to weather one of these little ladies.

QJW, I used lots of shades of pastels for oil marks, gun and exhusts. I also cracked on with a bit of chipping using flat aluminium by tamiya. Pic's below.

I am happy with it, probably over done, I need to work on my subtlety maybe..... yes I broke the wheels off but they are back on now

What are your thoughts? I want to use some light pastels for bringing out some panels and breaking up the block colour of the roundels, good idea or no?

I think I will use oils to do the oil stains on the other and see how we go.

In other news my little 5 year old wanted a spitfire mkix kit to paint light pink.... I have not got one and so far have not bought one....this has angered the normally calm little thing and she had a strop, saying well "what planes DO you have!?", I picked a few from the stash and here are the results

Photos by the little one all work, with a little help mixing paints and placing things from day, by herself as well.... I am informed it will be painted light pink with wheels down.

One amazing thing I have to say is that I left her with the kit while I was getting everything ready, when I got back she had dry fitted the fuselage, wings and had the prop and cone in place while while trying to rip the necklaces from their spruce.... how does she kown how to do that! It very much impressed me

The Spit looks good as is Rob. Careful you don't overdo the weathering now.

The Mossie looks as you both have had fun today and that's what matters both in this hobby in particular and life in general :goodjob:

Looks good to me Rob - enough is enough? :)

I agree with the above, I think you've got just the right amount of weathering, especially for 1/72 scale. I'm also planning to use pastels on mine.

I'm also impressed with your 5 year old's knowledge of things aeronautical.

Cheers

Rob, I'm all for a weathered aircraft :coolio: , provided that your reference pics shows it that way. That being said, I concur with the others saying that you got that right :goodjob:

If you want to tone down a little bit the oil streaks, you can always go over them with a filter (base color, slightly lightened, very thinned) - I'm following too many builds and I don't remember if you're using an airbrush or painting these by brush, but the idea for the filter is the same. If you use oils to do them, I think you'll probably get a better control.

I would also personally go for toning down the roundels, whichever method you choose.

Rob, she's a girl, they learn fast (scaringly fast, sometimes)! I have three, I think I know what I'm talking about :coolio:

Cheers chaps, I will give a bit of pastel to the roundles and run over the oil streaks with the enamel I used but thinned, I feel they need to be mor realistic,

Girls do learnt fast! My boy probably knows how to do the same but would rather just smash it currently.... Still I like to think she will design aircraft for a living, it's my rite as a father to think this

These are actually finished now! The canopy in the pictures looks a lighter shade but doesn't in real life!?

However I cant show you that as photo bucket is having 'maintenance' so I can't post anything!

Oh and here is a public vote.... what next!

I have the p 47 GB and corsair GB but with all the main projects finished what do I do now!? Options below

PB defiant

Catalina airfix, probably as a RNZAF, a rescribe and scratch build interior (this will last most he year I would say!!)

Airfix mozzie with a detailed interior

Or do I dare to start my eduard hell cat with photo etch!?

The decision is yours!

Great results Rob - good job :)

Purely selfishly I'd vote for the Catalina as I bought one when I saw yours (and was it a 'last chance' too?) Scratch interior? That's something I would shamelessly copy! :)

That said any of the others would be just a nice to watch and the Defiant would give you a rest from all the scratching!
