Right, this the third try to post this after comp crashes at work and one not liking photobucket. ....who does

So a lot of progress has been made on these and all three are just about at the same spot, as you will see

But first let's look at the mki's and how their CP went together, first bit was IP and seat belts followed by a wash.

915B122C-EFCE-4D80-86C9-19C6B4696439_zps

Though this process I realise I need more paint brushes for the detailed work!

DD03A43E-E0FD-4E91-8E1D-8D22DE54E717_zps

I didn't do the seat armor and my try adding the head plate before the canopy goes on but will need to see how it goes...

F58DCD91-800B-4975-A5CA-6626230DF0F5_zps

Bit of dry brushing followed by a wash

47494F9E-32F7-478E-A68D-DA41F6B6ABC8_zps

Bit of a dry fit, looking fine

103A6403-8A3A-45EA-BC92-A99A237377E6_zps

And one from earlier, again dry fitting fine

CA36DA3A-EC9B-4C09-B07B-D6C42840A8BC_zps

34AD6373-F8F5-4293-A9B1-2BCC32932FBD_zps

All glued and prop in place!

So after that I moved on to the wings, which dry fitting showed that they would need clamping in stages and the bottom of the CP needed a tidy to help fit.

First stage clamping the lowers to the fuselage

74015F25-73B3-4CC0-B61B-129582530353_zps

After that dried I clamped the where the fuselage meats the wings before adding the uppers

CF9F48A1-6BA0-4643-B5F6-3C9D1B76BB6A_zps

The uppers however needed a bit more encouragement. ....also at the risk of offending, the wings look rather, eeerrrr germainic above

EE6AA5B1-D9D1-4437-9DA8-9248FC2EB734_zps

Ahhhh thats better! .....One more than the other!!

4F881135-4B28-4828-B7A1-8990BCAA5A9F_zps

But the fit is ok, a bit of milliput and a wet finger will be needed but not much.... not like the hurricanes....

So then I added the filters under the wing, tailplanes and rudder.

9428126B-E1B5-47A9-AB84-CC5FF24A563B_zps

I have to say the pr xix is nor as good as these chaps in fit and detail, it's like it's in between the Mk ix and the mkia in its quality... talking of that, could you make a Mk XII out of a Mk xix and a Mk ix?? Hmmmm

Any way, did the CP kn the pr xix

28B63DF1-4D9D-42EB-A03E-41B8E2C09BD5_zps

Little bit of detail and a wash added. Then stuck the window in for the camera

21EBDE47-9A18-4D9B-B126-4BB04CD7B20B_zps

Also added the seat to the back plate and painted and with the leather backing painted and seat belts added

83FAB2A1-9F2A-41AC-9D88-E7FC0181B387_zps

Then added all this to the IP and control surfaces, the fit here is one of the big differencesbetween the two. The mkia just clicks together and can hold its own, this will wobble and is needs to be glued into the fuselage to stay solid...so here it is!

44A70E8A-E1EB-4958-843D-FF182CE79325_zps

the IP is missing is transfer as i got it folded up and then ripped....oops

After this ir got cloclosed up....and then dropped which is why the prop is not present and it needs a little bit of convincing to go back to the shape it should be.... oops again.

I also added the wings, easier than the mkia but no wheel well detail! Sorry for the lack of progress shots but I was tired.....

492ED470-D260-4921-90A0-BB901E4137A1_zps

7460D3A1-39D5-4B41-94ED-964CE5288FC4_zps

Oh and added the tail planes, they look wonky here but I am sure they are not in the flesh!

So that's where we are at chaps....

As will the hurricanes to provide clarity to progress on all three, a family photo....they grow up so fast!

21456CA7-0028-448F-85B4-00FED3C5F022_zps

9494A51B-B681-4357-9028-64F959013C72_zps

Such a beautiful shape....And just the BofB pair

55404E3B-B5C6-4744-9B64-8566F92717DF_zps

So next step is a bit of filling and tidying before paint! Yay

C&C welcome and happy Sunday

Enjoying your progress here Rob. Have to admit I'm no great fan of the Airfix 72nd XIX kit after spending ages in the 'pit of two only to add the thick canopy and never see all that detail work again. Not built the new tool Mk.1 kit yet but have a couple in the stash for PR conversions so finding your progress with them informative as well as entertaining :)

Cheers col! I can highly recommend the little airfix mkia, very little work needed on it.... As long as you like panel lines....

Yes PR conversion!! I want some mk ix, mk v and mki/ii to do a run of them next year... I say that I have a lot I want to do next year!! Hang on a tick I could do a PR triple build for the North Africa/med GB..... Hmmmmm..... Cheers for the thought col I am off to google!

I know giemme, I think I tripped over one putting them together!

There will not be much need for a panel wash, I think I will just accent with pastels and chipping?? Should be plenty?

Also on the topic of fast progress a) your doing rather well with that phantom of yours considering the amount of work your doing to it and b ) I must confess there is two nights work in that one post...

Cheers giemme

Thought I would pop these up as well, I built this about 2 years ago after getting back in to the hobby, very simply painted glued and transfered.... no sanding or micromeshing ir thinning of paint or anything else I might do now to try and make my models better! So why does the rear or the wing look a better fit?!

I must look at the WIP page more often,I've only just found this.

As giemme says, your progress is extremely fast, only a couple of days more than it's taken me for one!

I like your approach to the wing/ fuselage joins, sort of reverse Plastix.

Cheers

Cheers John,

As for speed I might be going quicker, but your mk xii sure does look better!!

I am off for an Autumn walk now... I need to film it with my little girl so she can edit it and then email it to her school, it's her homework!! She is 5!! When I was 5 the gulf war was on and I only had MS DOS at school, she has iPads and touch screen boards... She made her own confectionery company last week, designed a wrapper for the chocolate and made the bars as well as shooting as commercial on a green screen....😳😳.... Then they sold them to the parents!! Week after next she is in London for a meeting with Sir Alan Sugar....she says the proposal has 'got legs and could go global'....

Makes the ice cream stand and selling fags I did in year 8 look small fry...

Great progress Rob :)

"the IP is missing is transfer as i got it folded up and then ripped..." when this happens to me I put the transfer back in water and swish it around until it unfolds - hopefully!

Meeting Alan Sugar? A new Apprentice!!

Cheers chaps,

Sean.... You can talk how many completed models did you have for the bofb GB in the end?! Good job you came along otherwise the completed build could have been halved!

Ced, crap that's a cunning plan why didn't I think of that?! One to have in the back pocket for when it inevitably happens again...

Julian, it helps that they are not 1/4 of the size of my front room and packed to the rafters with detail....like others 😜. But cheers, as clever mr dapple has noted on his cluster builds and the cunning mr P that a build of 3 is the magic number

Cheers

..... Hurricane, spitfire and a beaufighter mki all PR AC's in North Africa..... Then I could do a Malta triple as well!

Rob

Must admit I'm on the same mission to do a range of PR Spits next year at some point thanks to the Model Alliance sheet on early Merlin-engined machines. Then there's a PR Mosquito from the Tamiya kit and a 48th PR.XI kitbash I want to do as well as a Mustang I spotted looking good in PRU Blue on an Xtradecal sheet. Then again I feel everything looks good in PRU Blue. Really must stock up on more Hu 230

I know giemme, I think I tripped over one putting them together!...

Rob

 They are a bit deep for the smooth skin of a Spitfire in 72nd. Sure a little filler will help if it looks an issue.

  I'm with Col. anyway, a bit of filler or maybe a very generous primer coat should reduce those valleys.

Two nights work is still pretty fast, man! :frantic:

Cheers chaps, I am with col too....pru blue! What a colour! You could tell me they painted a Blackburn Blackburn (so ugly they named it twice) in the hue and I would think it beautiful!

Funny you should mention the 1/48 mozzie, I was talking about 1/48 being appealing on johns mk xii thread and how I would like to do a set of spits and mozzies in the scales....space time and money do not permit this, but I am only 30, I have time to get a house for my models.

You're right about the Germanic look without the elliptical portion of the wings - it really is what makes the Spitfire design so iconic.

Plasto made a Mk XIV out of a Mk IX and Mk XIX here. It's a build I keep looking at, and might have to copy you (again) if you try it.

Thanks both!

Very true cookie you pop that wing on and it just changes the look of the AC, possibly why I am not so keen in the mkxxii as the wing is subtlety different, weird.

And thank you for the mkxiv link I will have a good look it that!

Like I said on your trio (which is a great thread nd can be found here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234993067-cookies-spitfire-trio/) and on John's mkxii (also great and found here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234992524-spitfire-mk-xii-coded-eb/ ) I think I might end up getting tonnes of spitfire's!

Thanks Stix, glad you like the work done! Also glad you like the little swedish spit I did, it's supposed to be grey but not sure what I used on it, I think I mixed it myself TBH and looks rather blue in real life, my pic has not helped that!

Wife at yoga teacher training tonight (I am a lucky man I so many ways) so get the kids to sleep and hopefully get some paint on he trio!

Not at all Rob, I took the easy option, oob mainly. If I'd had tried what you did I wouldn't

have got as far as paint!
