AntPhillips
When you buy it, you give Trumpy signal - All ok, boys, your kit isn´t MiG-23BN, but you have here my money and thank you ! Sorry, but this is "spammed of model kits market" with ugly, innacurate kits who isn´t models but parody.... Is ironic a fighter version of Trumpy Flogger have only few minor issues(Air intakes ?) and overall it is nice kit of the legendary "bedna" (=crate-nickname for Flogger in Czechoslovak/Czech Air Force). But "BN" is really a - sorry i must autocensorship me.... Is first half of 21.century and i understandy why big budget company as Trumpeter make this caricature...... Sorry, MiG-23BN is UGLY and isn´t MiG-23 BN..... Howg - this is my last word in case of inaccurate MiG-23BN from Trumpy. I'm not sure, but I suspect you really don't like this kit, do you? 😉
AlCZ
I don´t like whole Trumpeter/Hobby Boss. Few kits i have (and build -last time Typhoon submarine, because i love movie with Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin "Hunt for Red October"....) Trumpeter some times release some with relations to Czech/Czechoslovakia history or army but very often are this models with many errors.... and last year pricing on Trumpy/HB go over - and this is final stage. Pay enough money for models with fatal errors to accuracy (sometimes i must say - really kit designers seen this actual machine on their own eyes ?) and i say no no no. Only kit from Trumpy who i have in my wishlist is M1070 HET and - maybe- Patriot. HET is relative accurate and Patriot- i don´t know... But when i saw a compare of Smerch Missile launcher - between Meng and Trumpy... OMG.... OMG... (And i can´t understand why when have hi-tech technology make this innacurate kits). Bronco, AFVclub, Meng, AMK or Kinetic and many news companies with Chinese origin and don´t make a "Chinese Quality" - as Trumpy/HB :/
Dudikoff
Well, when somebody else releases all these rare kits they did (Soviet ships, subs, tanks, planes, etc. or in your case, Czech subjects), you might have a point, but somehow I doubt this will happen. Besides, a lot of their kits are pretty good or at least decent enough so this black and white stance is pretty pointless.

Julien
IIRC, don't Neomega in the UK have a set for correcting the hooter already? I'm sure I was looking at one with Gordon on his stand at Telford. It's a lot easier than doing the rhinoplasty myself, so it would bump the build up the calendar a little. No that was a Fencer nose set we saw.

I just have to finish the MiG-23 BN correct nose and canopy first. http://www.coldwarstudio.com/index.html V.P. Dudikoff
No that was a Fencer nose set we saw. Sold also on Neomega's page, but made by Komplekt Zip and it also includes the canopy (they also make the intakes, exhausts and wheels correction sets). Neomega did make a new cockpit for the Su-24 recently and it looks pretty detailed (noticeably more detailed than the Aires set judging by the photos), although it is rather pricey. After buying the KZ correction sets, I'm at odds about getting additional sets like the cockpit or wheel bays. Sorry for getting OT.
SleeperService
Emotions can run high sometimes especially when limited to one form of communication and when writing in a second language. I can see AICZ's point as I have similar feelings. I think it comes down to how much emotion (hope) you invest in a release and how you feel about what is actually made. If it's a model that I really want to build then I will spend more on correction bits and so on, I don't like it but that's the choice. If it's not something I am passionate about then I'll either What-If? it, build it and not be bothered (unlikely) or put it away while I decide. So the Trumpy Whirlwind will be gaining a pair of Merlins, while my HB Typhoon will be modified to match the Mikro Mir one and have the Red October catapiller drive installed. I will however be modifying my Italeri Hurricanes as Troy's snag list and my MiG-23 as well. Horses for courses...
sharkmouth
Emotions can run high sometimes especially when limited to one form of communication and when writing in a second language. English is not my first language. I don't get the point alluded to here. I can see AICZ's point as I have similar feelings. I think it comes down to how much emotion (hope) you invest in a release and how you feel about what is actually made. If it's a model that I really want to build then I will spend more on correction bits and so on, I don't like it but that's the choice. I am quite passionate about my shark mouth schemes so this was a needed purchase. I bought it, shared image of it to garner information on what needs to be done to improve it since I do not mind using some old fashioned modeling skills. The fact anyone doesn't like the errors inherent to the model doesn't mean that they tell me my "kit is candidate to bin with sorted waste." That is insulting to me personally as I bought the model, took the time to share images of my kit, and then I have someone dictate to me their opinion as to what to do with my kit. The opinion of why the subject is not up to their standards is not covered, only that the model is garbage and a caricature. Basically, that person can't or won't put any effort into old fashioned modeling skills and would rather just assemble kits. This is fine but it does not help me with the kit subject posted. Telling me to build other models is not helpful either as I may not be interested in recommended models or I have already bought and/or build them. Thank goodness for the block function! Laurent
Some progress on the correction set: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?s=1f7a0f30e41e12b7d3224f737eef1e1a&showtopic=290991
SleeperService
Hi Sharkmouth My point was simply that some people take offence too easily and this isn't helped when they are using their second language for the conversation. I used to see this in my job every day. Having gone to the other forum you referred to I think we are in agreement here. Yes, this kit is wrong. However it is correctable. The box is certainly too large!
sharkmouth
I just got Trumpeter's MiG-27 in and it has a new nose sprue. No idea if it is correct as I haven't had time to check.[Edit - I checked and there have been no corrections to the outline of the nose, canopy sills, canopies, or cockpit armor.]Regards, Edited June 8, 2016 by sharkmouth
rbeach84
Saul, I don't believe AICZ was referring specifically to your efforts with the kit... he was just voicing his frustration with the consistently disappointing releases from Trumpy- Hobby Boss. Anyone who has been modeling a while knows that a fine result can be achieved with enough 'elbow grease'. However, another viewpoint is, to quote my friend Dennis, "Life is too short to waste it on a crappy kit". Of course, what constitutes a 'crappy kit' is different for everyone... sometimes, even a 'monstrous' kit will find an eye to be an apple to... which perhaps explains many of the kits in my stash... ooh! a 1/48 B-47! Must have it... For your part, obviously you are frustrated with the constant 'barrage' against T/HB releases. However, don't forget the commentary is aimed at Trumpeter, not Trumpy customers. Admiration for modelers who turn out 'silk purses' is practically universal, I wager... which is only the case because not everyone does it. Personally, I thank you for sharing your work since it can & does inspire others to go beyond their current boundaries. Certain 'builds' stick with you and for me those are those that turned the pig's ear "free" (like that Sanger/Contrail Halifax I saw once...) In context, most of the T/HB angst arises, I suspect, from the sadness over the 'lost potential' of their kits. I understand that their domestic market is glad of the variety offered, however, and so they are successful within the scope of their business model, which is to keep 'feeding the flames' at home. At least the molding engineering is to a high standard - much better than their earlier efforts - but that only keeps us hoping that maybe this latest kit is the One they don't FU in some way... In any case, thank goodness for Airfix & others who are proving that an accurate gem of a kit doesn't have to 'break the bank'... Regards, Robert [Too bad there wasn't a fix in the box... I wonder why the new sprue?]
sharkmouth
Saul, I don't believe AICZ was referring specifically to your efforts with the kit... he was just voicing his frustration with the consistently disappointing releases from Trumpy- Hobby Boss... [Too bad there wasn't a fix in the box... I wonder why the new sprue?] While this is true, I had asked that criticism be towards the kit subject at hand. The feelings for the company are irrelevant as their money wasn't spent, it was mine. Instead of wishing me luck (the old American adage of "Better you than me!") would have been met with a chuckle and I would have understood the distaste the person has with what they saw. Telling me the kit belongs is the garbage is tiresome and simply means that they do not care about the reasons I posted. Therefore, I no longer post images of the new kits. Why the new nose? It has a crescent shaped indent at the bottom. Otherwise, it is identical. The MiG-23BN sprue tree with the nose, fuselage halves and instrument panel, was replaced with the new nose sprue tree, another sprue tree with new fuselage halves, main gear doors, instrument panels (two provided with no mention to one), and nose gear mud guard. The fuselage halves, and main gear doors, reflect the bulged appearance yet no large main gear wheels are included. Other extra sprue trees are a clear one from the Su-24MK kit which has the instrument panel and the nose lenses of the air to ground weapons which constitute the extra weapon sprue in this release. The instructions still have spurious load out diagrams. I am more displeased with this release than the MiG-23BN since nothing was corrected and items (like the larger main wheels) omitted. This simply means more business towards aftermarket noses (CWS is one) and wheels from Armory: Equipage: and perhaps a replacement cannon from QuickBoost or barrels from MasterModel (not out yet). rbeach84
Yes, I understand. RE: the "updated" kit, appreciate the clarification. As you note, the kit will certainly provide the aftermarket 'guys' plenty of opportunity! Regards, Robert
