Martian Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Telford having to inspire on the Bonkers front, I decided to amble on down to my LMS this morning to see what they had to offer that could follow the Haunebu build. Lo and behold! a short chat with the owner resulted with me walking out with this: We clearly need a back story so I think we will start with the following: Herman the Space Cat doodled this design in his scratch tray after a night on the catnip with the Fuhrer. Seeing the design Goring felt that it held promise and passed the idea on to Professor Heinkel (He of "The bumble bee flies because it doesn't know how not to" fame), who kicked the idea around and came up with the abject failure that we all know and love as the Heinkel He.177. Shouldn't have messed around with the cat's original design methinks. Please feel free to add to the back story and any mad ideas that wend their way into your fevered brains as I will be trying to do something with the almost non-existent interior. This thread will be dedicated to Ray Lawson of Plastic Pastimes as he is responsible for putting the idea in my head in the first place! Thanks for looking Martian PS: I shall be retaining the Martian moniker for any future builds in the Bonkers series of models. 4
Pete in Lincs Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Back story? Dunno. But I'm sure this will turn out to be the cats whiskers. (Ahem) (BTW, Do we now call you Herr Professor or von Martin?) 1

Gremlin56 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 A fun collection of aircraft, if I remember correctly they also have a B-17 and a Lanc. Oh the temptation......................................................... 1

Oh the temptation......................................................... Temptation is there to be given in to! I really want the lanc from this series. Looks great with sharks teeth on every engine ceiling. Go for it, these kits are really cheap, I paid £11,95 for mine. Has to be worth a punt for a good laugh. Martian
S5 modeller Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Any progress martian? Want to see more of this wacky kit. Matt 1
Pete in Lincs Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 link to the lanc http://www.kingkit.co.uk/product_detail.php?prodID=30887 Kingkit seems to have the whole range at 10,99. 1
Max Headroom Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Bonkers! Ok did you know that Herman originally designed this as a seaplane? Trevor 1
Martian Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Any progress martian? Want to see more of this wacky kit. Matt I have got the front of the fuselage stripped of assorted peg and reinforcements for the snap together kit, after all we need somewhere for the bonkers bits to go. I might try and get this area boxed in tomorrow and get some pictures up. Not looking forward to trying to photograph white plastic added to white plastic though. I remember I had a hell of a job when I did my Airfix TSR2. link to the lanc http://www.kingkit.co.uk/product_detail.php?prodID=30887 Kingkit seems to have the whole range at 10,99. A good deal for those in the locality who don't have to pay postage. f this goes well have a feeling I will end up building at least one more from the range. I wonder if I could convert the Lancaster to a Manchester for added bonkers value? Bonkers! Ok did you know that Herman originally designed this as a seaplane? Trevor Quite possibly. What is very clear is that had Professor Heinkel not meddled with Herman's original design, the aircraft would have been far more successful. The moral here is clearly " always listen to a Space Cat"! Martian 2
Martian Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Truly bonkers. As usual, we aim to please! I think I will definitely do something to this build tomorrow. The news about Edgar has really got me down and I think need to do something to lighten my mood a bit. Martian
