Good day, gentlemen!

Let me present you my next model.

But first of all - little story)

One of the very few fighter pilots in World War II to achieve the “ace” status in both the Pacific and European Theatres, Colonel John Landers is remembered as a skilled pilot and capable combat commander.

Landers served with the 49th Fighter Group, in the Pacific Theatre flying P40’s and achieving 6 victories against the Japanese. In 1944, he was sent to Europe, where he joined the 55th Fighter Group (38th Fighter Squadron) based in Duxford, England. Five more victories were credited to him during this tour, bringing his total to 11. John Landers would later become Commanding Officer of the 38th Squadron in mid 1944.

Being posted to the 8th Air Force in Europe, he flew in several units including 78th, 357th and 361st flying P-38’s and P-51’s, all of which were named “Big Beautiful Doll”. Colonel John Landers ended his flying career with 14.5 victories, 4.5 of these and an additional 20 ground victories were achieved in P-51’s.

His impressive scoreboard and nose art adorned many airframes during his career. His P-51 “Big Beautiful Doll” was one of the most colorfully painted Mustangs of that era.

A truly impressive example of the modeller's art!

With all that attention to detail lavished on the model, I have to wonder – why didn't you fill that leading edge joint line between the wing halves? No joint there on the full size, AFAIK. ;-)

Inspiring detail work!

Kind regards,

Joachim

I know that there was no joint of panels on the wing. But I read that they were covered with a layer of a primer and then painted with aluminum powder. That is, in my opinion, some joints are still visible. I decided just not to washing them.

On this picture you can see even the rivets, so it was not a putty.

Do you have a WIP? Which paints did you use?

Unfortunately, I didn't keep a photo report of WIP. Metallic paints - I use from the British "Alclad" with their black substrate. In my opinion, this is the best metallics in the world.

Fantastic model and beautiful finish.

------------------------------------------

I think Joachim is referring to the front edge of the wings. There was no seam here, and had nothing to do with the the 'puttying' of the wing surfaces.

Possibly just the lighting gives the effect of a seam being there?

Better colour shot from PrimePortal:

Of course there's no seam - this is just the light effect. I have no any seam on wings of all my models.

An excellent build, particularly the nmf although the cockpit detail is equally impressive.

Might I ask, do you enter any model competitions? This P-51 looks like it could easily win one.

Thank you for the feedback, sir. I like to organize a competition with myself))). I do the same model of aircraft through big time. And then the model that has made by myself much worse than the present - heartlessly thrown out or give to children))).

That's an incredibly well done model.

The paint work is just fantastic.

I really like the detail you've done on the main landing gear door (that strip of natural metal plate) have you done that using Bare Metal?

Only two things I would like to say, first in regards to the antenna wire (we have discussed that in my post) I think it would have that.

Second, you've used the wrong propeller for this plane, all photos that I've seen show it with the cuffed version, see the photo below.

Otherwise an outstanding model! :goodjob:

But this one?)))

Hamilton Standard prop was used on these models, and could easily be moved.

And by the way, if you are referring to the pictures of BB Doll of the second World War - it is not there a rope antenna :).
