The next project,

Need a break from green and black so I have decided to finish this project. I started it last year

and for some reason put it to one side. Now I'm going to finish it.

I was this morning going to start on the AFV Club Scimitar but having a few part started kits knocking around slowly getting damaged

I thought it best to try and get some finished.

A lot of work involved as the Tamiya kit is dated, It still builds into a great little tank

if you put your mind too it.

I shall look forward to watching this come together as I have had the privilege to drive the Tank Museum's M60A1 a couple of times

I'm in! I still saving the scimitar in my stash, hoping that the 'Eyes and Ears' Recce GB goes ahead and I can enter it in that.

Possibly the old four colour MERDC colour color scheme?

Not much of an update as I have been prepping the

Kit for the resin parts, the back end has a new rear

Plate so I've spent a lot of time ripping off the old

Kit part which I glued on.

Photo's to follow later.

Small update.

most of the time has been spent cleaning up the resin parts and removing

detail from the base kit. I started this kit last year as I mentioned above

but one thing that I have noticed is the plastic has gone really brittle, this makes getting it ready

more time consuming.

It's an old kit and not up to the new AFV Club release standards on the M60 but hopefully

I'll make it into something acceptable. Lots of work to put into this build, probably more than the Challenger.

New resin back end, the exhaust louvers are all PE so that will be fun, probably last to go on to save knocking them all off.

The new resin cupola has a partial interior.

Commanders sight unit

P1020938_zpscvswuhc2.jpg

Removal of the drivers scopes, the Tamiya kit only gave you the centre scope in the raised position

the Legend set gives all three.

Enjoy

Interesting, not a subject I'm familiar with but I'll watch this one, it'll keep us entertained until you start the Scimitar you've dangled under our noses!

Thanks Chaps :-)

It will be a good test for a new acquisition that I managed to

trade a few kits for. I really want to nail the MERDC scheme

so I needed something a bit more precise in the airbrush dept.

Nothing wrong with my trusty old Iwata TR1 airbrush which will still get used

for the bulk of my airbrushing but for really fine work I managed to acquire this

little beauty, only been used to test it.

This is an intriguing build! I'll definately look at how you handle resin and PE, i've still got a 432 stashed away from Accurate Armour so i'll be watching this with interest! Good work so far!

Hi All,

Progress is a bit slow as I assembled a lot of the Tamiya

kit before hand, quite a lot of the parts needed to be removed to make way for the resin items and the Legend parts are time consuming to remove and clean up

from the casting lugs, probably the most awkward I've encountered TBH.

A few pictures of the progress so far.

P1020951_zpsprqcuqvi.jpg

P1020950_zpszlryexby.jpg

P1020949_zpsmhvnaqkl.jpg

Drivers scopes and the two rain channels added, front deck has been filled as it suffered

from a large sink mark.

P1020948_zpswahbsn1a.jpg

P1020947_zpscrztvkms.jpg

The plastic on the kit has turned really brittle which makes for more fun removing parts, they seam to shatter when removing taking a large area with them so I'm rebuilding a few areas.

Cheers for looking

Hi Dan, good luck with this one, hopefully the brittle plastic won't give you too many headaches.

Nice buy with the Iwata, I would love to own one of them. I seem to get OK but not really good enough results with my twenty five quid Machine Mart Chinese Badger copy! Maybe I should stop buying kits and buy a decent airbrush instead. What compressor are you using?

Cheers

Al

Cheers Al,

I have a Sparmax compressor nothing special but its reliable and works a treat, as for an Airbrush I would upgrade

to a known brand as you'll find the quality jump unbelievable. I started out on the good old Badger route, first Airbrush

was 200 single action back in 1987, I upgraded to 150 double action about 6 years later. Most people I speak with seem to have started with a Badger

airbrush :-)

Back in 2009 I bought a Iwata TR1 and I've never looked back, the difference was amazing. The badger is still on the airbrush holder but it was last used about 5 years ago

and only because I bent the needle on my Iwata.

This is a good link to watch by Paul Budzik if you are interested in getting a good finish and choosing and airbrush.

Dan

Great start Dan as usual.

Remember these in Berlin on some of the parades there.

I believe the King of music served with these in Germany too.

Like me you use two of the Iwata spray guns.

I like the trigger one for larger area's.

Thanks for posting the videos Dan, really informative, especially the one concerning pressure. I didn't think there were so many variables, I've a lot to learn.

I started with a Paasche single action and changed to the 'Badger' copy and noticed a difference in control. Looks like I'm just going to have to save up or sell half the stash and buy a decent brush!

So a break for the weekend has delayed the build,

Made a start this afternoon on adding the more refined detail parts from

Legend.

Added the foundry markings found on the rear plate, one of the Archer decals that

has been printed using resin.

Plus the tow bracket and hook, this will get the welds added later.
